I'd have never signed up for the eBay managed payments had I known I could no longer partially refund a buyer for shipping. I also have used partial refunds in the past when a buyer wanted to return something because they changed their mind. I would offer to let them keep the item sometimes at half the cost.... This is a huge deal. Fix it eBay!!

I was under the impression that this issue had been rectified! Wasn't it announced in the Fall Update? Was somebody "telling a fib"? Naughty, eBay! Naughty!

@lisagaylesmith Not having the ability to do Partial Pre-Shipment (or other) Refunds was "accidentally" forgotten with the Beta program when they rolled it out ... there was a huge outcry then and apparently it has not been fixed. Their solution was to tell the Buyer to process a return request and then you refund them thru that ... errnt, who in their right mind would 1) do that and 2) bother a Buyer with eBay's problems and lack of both foresight and inability to fix a problem quickly. That certainly doesn't "enhance the buying experience" (eBay's phrase).
Managed Payments is NOT a finished product ... so I ask you, how's the accounting end of MP going for you?

I imagine if one went to Seller Hub, one would find instructions on how to issue a partial refund..................

Not sure if this is or isn't fixed based on the responses so far, but as we all have learned here ... eBay likes to roll out process changes that are missing things, have glitches, cause confusion ... and most importantly, aren't wanted by us (eBay's Customers).

The OP's post came after the Fall Seller Update, so its not fixed ... there should be a very easy, PER LISTING, pull down menu link to process a partial refund ... the quote you shared, was that part of the section that started or ended with something like they will be rolling those features out in the future?
Sadly, the Seller Updates fail in explain how to actually process new features ... the explanation should be part of the announcement ... but that would be too easy I suppose ...

Maybe some of the issues will get resolved soon since I see eBay is rolling out Managed Payments in Germany starting this week. Will be interesting to see what problems they run into over there.
Article is in the Ebay News section.

I thought the only time a seller could offer a partial refund through the eBay process was when they had free returns?

I don't have access to Seller Hub, so I have no way of accessing the refund process - but judging from the statement, I would assume that the instructions are in there some where - probably not easy to locate or intuitive, but somewhere!

Actually, no post above states for sure that the Partial Refund process is in Seller Hub ... I think it should be a simple pull down menu selection on a Sold item. You should Opt in to Seller Hub, there are some nice features and shortcuts there, I use it for a number of functions that I perform but prefer the Classic My eBay for checking sales and processing orders. Unfortunately, the Active list page on Seller Hub is way too slow and often will not load the item pictures ...

really? am rolling here … ebay can't even seem to get managed payments right here, and my sis in france told me that they are trying to start managed payments in uk too, and now germany? laughing my posterior off (no you don't need to do visuals cuz it's phat!) I really hope to hear better process and application from these other sites … that can maybe influence ebay u.s. to get it right 🙂

You have the glitches RIGHT. I had to initiate my first return and have tried FIVE flipping times to print the return shipping label. It comes out huge and on 2 pages?!? Took it to the post office and was told it's useless. It hasn't happened in a long time but eBay has reduced me to tears today. GRRRRR and just shaking my head until I have whiplash.
One of my first returns also printed the return shipping label HUGE and took 2 pages. I believe I reprinted, and used my printer settings to REDUCE the size to 70% or so. Later return shipping labels printed just fine.

if 70% doesn't work try the '...fit to page' option. I am not sure how pirateship will work with managed payment levels, but seems to work fine for me on everything else. but pirateship charges your credit/debit card.

Yes! But sign up for a PP Business Debit Card and the cost can be deducted from your PP balance, just as eBay labels does. PLUS you earn points on the card, something you don't get from eBay.
