On both occasions, he threw out the parcels because he “was running late for a personal matter,” prosecutors said. His personal matter wasn’t specified.

That reminds me of the instance back a bit where one service truck driver dumped many boxes down a hillside. Don't remember which company that was. Seems it was white truck with 5 letters on the side.
City near me. One carrier regularly dumped his "bulk" mail in a dumpster. Flyers/circulars.

I remember seeing a USPS delivery vehicle alongside the road going up in flames.
Also, There was an accident recently near here on the interstate. One of those tandem trailer
UPS trucks involved. Packages scattered for 150 feet in every direction.

Many of us could provide stories about mail carriers dumping mail and packages that may have been a local story, that didn't make the national news. I do remember one that did, about a carrier someplace, who had dumped mail into a storage locker for years. I forget how it was discovered.
If there could said to be a good side to those stories, it is that the carriers who did those things, didn't go "Postal" and harm their co-workers. Unfortunately, those carriers probably do not realize their actions may have affected sellers on 3rd party retail sites like ebay.
"His personal matter wasn’t specified".
Just a guess, but maybe he needed to get to his shrink's office.

USPS will still find a reason not to pay out the insurance claims 🙂
