I have just been shafted by eBay! They take my money each week and then I have a problem with a customer to get my money back and they deny my money!! This buyer bought 22 items from me, USPS did not scan the package, the buyer demanded a refund the day the package was supposed to arrive. I called eBay and they said if the package does not show up in a few days to go ahead and give a refund. Then if the package shows and the buyer does not send my items back, I can open up a case to get my money back. Well after a month of LIES from eBay, and LIES from the supervisors AT eBay, THEY DENIED MY CASE/REFUND BECAUSE USPS DID NOT SCAN THE PACKAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! This company is the most horrible company!!! I was rethinking about going to other platforms to sell my items. WELL THIS MADE MY DECISION FOR ME!!! Maybe I will be treated a lot better with those companies!!!! GOODBYE EBAY!! IT MAY TAKE ME A BIT TO CLOSE MY STORE BUT CAN'T WANT TO LEAVE YOU IN THE DUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Certainly your choice as to what to do.........but even if the original scan was missed...........there were no other scans?

I am sorry you are going through this but you will find the policies on other ecommerce sites are very similar to eBay's when it comes to INR cases. Your anger is misplaced this is not eBay's fault, and I am by no means an eBay cheerleader, this is the fault of USPS. I learned the hard way to never simply drop items at the PO for this exact reason. I stand in line and have each package scanned and obtain a receipt from the postal worker. Without the packages being scanned you have no way to respond to the INR case or to file a claim with USPS for a lost or missing package. About the best you can do is to cancel the shipping label(s) since there is no proof they were ever used and USPS will refund you for the cost of the labels. However, that takes 4-6 weeks for them to complete.

Did the tracking ever show in the system??
If not the item was never delivered, due to you have no way to prove it was.
In other words no tracking no delivery.
Not eBay fault: it was the USPS fault. EBay can do nothing but refund em.
Buyer gets refunded and you pay. Of course when ever the USPS gets around to delivering it the buyer gets a free item it they are not honest....
You might try and do an intercept if the items were costly enough to try it.

NO you don't understand, I was told numerous times I would get my money back. Also, I went to them for help and got no help. I got lie, after lie from eBay. Giving the advice to give a refund, knowing that USPS did not scan the item in the first place, they could have told me then or a supervisor could have told me that there is a chance I may be denied. BUT that never was said!! Also, I called on 10/19 and supposedly opened a case, was on the phone with them for 45 minutes because it had to do with 22 items. They told me that it would take 5 to 7 business days before I GET MY MONEY BACK, word for word. Called 7 business later, they told me it is waiting on a supervisors approval, so I wait some more....called a few days later because I have not heard a peep! You know what that representative told me, THERE IS NO CASE OPENED ON MY ACCOUNT!!! They never opened a case and then lied a week later saying it is waiting on approval. So, I demanded to speak to a supervisor, this was on 11/2. Spoke with a lady named Ella who said she is a supervisor and told me she would call me and let me know when the refund was going to happen. NOTHING FOR 7 DAYS! Today 11/9 called eBay again to check on my refund and a representative told me it was denied because USPS did not scan the package in the first place. THEY KNEW FROM DAY 1 I WAS NOT GETTING MY MONEY AND THEY STRUNG ME ALONG FOR THE RIDE AND THE BUYER HAS 22 ITEMS FOR FREE AND I HAVE NOTHING!!!! I am sorry but this is a lousy company and to be lied to by eBay over and over, a company that you thought would protect and/or help a seller in this situation. Also, good for you, you can stand in line each time, some people can't and need to call for pick up or it is after hours and have to drop the package off or the line is out the door and they lock the door on you before you can get to the lobby and you have to drop the item off or they are short staffed and you have to drop the item off...Bottom line that should NOT have been a factor in getting my money back. I am not a huge company, I am an individual and when something like this happens it hurts me big time and eBay does not care, I know that now!

Before selling on eBay you really need to check out how the process works. No delivery confirmation, no money. Has always been that way. Yes CS is lousy but what they say does not over ride policy. Go yell at USPS. It appears they are the ones at fault. How do you KNOW the buyer even got the package if there is no tracking?

The package was delayed and it arrived in New Jersey when all that shipping mess was going on 2 weeks late and it did have tracking #. I told the buyer over and over DO NOT OPEN PACKAGE WHEN IT ARRIVES SINCE THEY DEMANDED A REFUND AND WOULD NOT WAIT ON THE PACKAGE. THEY OPENED IT!! The buyer would NOT work with me or listen to me and my request and eBay would not work with me or help they decided to lie and stall. Also, I upload and use eBays labels on EVERY package so there is ALWAYS a tracking # and eBay told me this too, since I uploaded a tracking # I have nothing to worry about. I do read the policies and I know how the process works. I will not go yell at USPS because they are not the ones that lied to me over and over.

Seems whom ever you talked to gave the incorrect advice: normal as to the CS to dont have clue.
Bad training I think.
It is such in these cases eBay goes with if tracking is showing movement: no movement eBay refunds em.
If said tracking never was entered into the system; it still is not shipped by eBay's rules..
Of course no eBay CS rep is going to check such, just tell you to enter the number in the case.
When the case was filed, you should have done a intercept of package. Might not have worked but you might have got your goods back.
Once ebay refunded for you and of course charged you: you have no recourse in this matter.
If the purchaser is not honest eBay can do nothing about the situation.
What was the total of the sale???

I need to make certain I understand what is going on.
1. You sent 22 items to the same address in the same package,
2. The items NEVER showed up on tracking - ever.
3. The buyer requested a refund due to not receiving the package,
If this is the case then eBay was correct in their decision. You are responsible to the package until it is delivered. If tracking shows it was never delivered then the buyer gets their money back.
If the items were valuable then you needed to include postal insurance and need to file a claim with the USPS if you did.

I won't argue with you on the quality of the customer support service eBay has in place at the moment it went for barely acceptable to abysmal in the last six months. It is useless to call them they have NO clue what they are telling you. You would have been better off coming to this forum with the problem than calling customer support. I believe most sellers would have told you never to issue a refund unless the buyer has opened an official INR or NAD case or initiated a chargeback.
If there was never an any scan how do you know the buyer has received the 22 items? With regards to the USPS situation the same situation would have applied for any ecommerce site you elect to use. If there is no proof of delivery then at some point the buyer is going to get refunded and it is ALWAYS going to be a factor. Put yourself in the shoes of the buyer would you accept paying for something you never received?
As the holiday season picks up you may want to look at a few of the postings from last year where people were simply dropping packages, some were shoved into trucks and did not receive the initial scan until weeks or months later as USPS worked off the backlog. I hate standing in to obtain the scan and receipt but I am not willing to take the risk with USPS given the current situation they are in. I too am a small seller and I do everything I possibly can to reduce my risk given eBay offers virtually NO protection to the sellers.

scan you shipments eBay sellers NEED to do it or pay the price later!

Your issue is with whoever takes your packages to the post office and neglected to get a scan.
