Most of what I ship is 4 oz via first class package mail. It varies from 2.74 to 3.18 depending on which of the 9 zones it's going to.
In December, I mailed a 4-0z, first class package to a customer and it cost $3.30. Tonight, I created another label to the same customer for another 4 oz package and it was $3.05. I wondered why it cost less this time. Checking the rate chart, I saw that $3.05 was the correct charge. The amount of $3.30 doesn't appear anywhere in the chart for any weight/zone combination. How did they arrive at amount?
I decided to look at my past shipping charges to see if there were any other weird charges for these 4 oz packages. I found most of my label costs matched what the USPS rate chart said they should be. But I also found 5 that were different and each one was exactly .25 cents more than the cost in the chart. For example, a package that should have been $2.84 cost me $3.09. This happened 3 times in November and 2 times in December, all mailed to different people.
Can anybody out there enlighten me as to why .25 cents is being added to the cost of certain labels? Thanks!
