No status update in tracking number after 31 days. Is this common?

I already paid for several items. But after 31 days there is no update in the tracking number.   Seller said there is a problem with the tracking number but I don't think he is telling the truth. This is the 2nd Seller I have had encountered this problem.  The item is not delivered although I was refunded the whole cost of the item after opening a case. Is this some sort of a scam?

@banditpogi

No, not necessarily...especially if the package is coming from overseas...

You are located in the Philippines so I am unsure as to how your postal system works there.  Here in the U.S., packages - particularly from China can take up to 60 days to arrive and once they leave China's docks...many of them have no further tracking information.  Most of the items so arrive at their destinations here but there are some that just don't make it.

I have had more than a few over the years that have not made it here and a few that came in so late that the seller had already refunded me and I emailed them the re-pay them for the item (even though I do not need to).

Re: No status update in tracking number after 31 days. Is this common?

Somewhat yes(from European perspective anyways). During this autumn I've bought a lot of items from China(with a few from US and Japan). And a lot of them(that have tracking number) have either incomplete tracking or no tracking beyond the borders of their respective countries, or no tracking at all. And that applies to eBay's own tracking system, but also in much less severity to unofficial tracking sites. My only completed deliveries eBay shows are either ePackets or packages sent by EMS. I had a book delivery from US that took over a month via Fedex, and I didn't get any sort of update until 3 weeks were passed from initial shipment, and even that required some digging around. Granted, most of my orders did eventually arrive...

Have you tried 17track? About the possibility of scam, I can't say...

I thought it was just me - I've had a pkg estimated date changed it is now 4 weeks overdue (not here).  The site did a partial refund on the shipping but not the item.  I am going to request a refund tomorrow and cut down on my buying on that site.  Never had an issue until now 😞

Re: No status update in tracking number after 31 days. Is this common?

Generally speaking I very rarely lose packages. From the time I've been in ebay, over a decade, I can
count only a handful that went missing, and none of them high value.

From my experience this autumn, I can grade the delivery times from fastest to slowest:

From Japan: those sent via ePacket or EMS arrived at 2 weeks for less. Aprox. 3 weeks or more for SAL, with one exception arriving in less than 2 weeks. 2 packets with tracking stopped tracking delivery, but still arrived.

From Hong Kong: ePackets, about 2 weeks or less. Complete tracking.

From China: Most packages with tracking codes beginning with LO(ePacket?), arrived in about 2 weeks or so. Complete tracking on those. Next, those with tracking code beginning with code RV,
can be less 2 weeks or more than 3 depending, with one package still waiting delivery closing in 4 weeks. Generally accurate tracking.

Most inaccurate or missing tracking data was on packages with tracking code ending in either TO,TR or YP. So usually Yanwen, SFC, Chukou1 or Malaysia Post. Ranged from not giving any info to giving minimal tracking and then stopping. China Posts tracking varied. Those that arrived did so around 3-4 weeks. Tracking codes beginning with UT and UD also showed signs of incomplete tracking.

USA: 1 package with normal international post arrived around 1 month after initial shipping(no tracking). Another one was sent via Fedex International Economy, and that was by far the worst of the bunch. Horrible tracking(had to juggle between websites and companies to get any info), no time estimate, took 3 weeks to get any proper update and arrived a bit over 4 weeks after initial shipment
