Multiple Flat Rate Rules

Shipping rules - if you have two different flat rate rules (different types of items) and a customer orders a combination of those items, which rule will be in effect? I have written in my ad to hit the "Request Total" link if they purchase a combination of items but wondering what happens if they check out without doing that.  Thanks.

It would depend on how you have your combined shipping rules set up. I have several different flat rates rules set up. My combined shipping rule gives a percentage discount on 2nd and subsequent purchases when using the cart. The highest shipping amount is charged at full price, and the discounts are applied to any additional purchases made with a single payment. Sometimes the numbers get a little wonky, but that's been pretty rare. I eventually traced the problem to different zone instructions within one of my flat rate rules (user error).
