Misunderstanding about shipping amount

Sorry this is so long. I don’t know how to explain my problem without including the message text.

I’ll ask my questions before pasting the messages.

Q: Is there actually a ‘snail mail shipping’ option where I can send a two pound package from Michigan to California for $5?

Q: Am I obligated to pay return shipping?

Q: When the buyer returns the sconces, am I obligated to refund $8.06 plus shipping or just $8.06?

Buyer bought 2 sconces for $8.06 plus shipping

One day after shipping I received this message:

I was charged 20.00 $ shipping ! under Note to seller it clearly states PLEASE KNOW THIS IS WITH 5$ SHIPPING $5SHIPPING NO MORE !!!! PLEASE REFUND $15.00 BACK TO ME FOR OVER SHIPPING...
THANK YOU.

My reply: Please understand you can't send much for $5 these days. You must have oked the shipping charge when you placed the order.

Buyer: HELLO E BAY HAS A LOT OF FREE SHIPING TOO! I OKAYED THE 8.06 NOT SHIPPING LIKE IT STATES 5 DOLLAR SHIPPING YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE EXCEPTED THEN WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO EBAY WILL SEE THIS AND OGREY WITH ME IM JUST STATING YOU NEED TO LOOK CLEARER AT WHAT IS BEING SENT TO YOU ILL MEET YOU HALF WAY 10$ CREDIT I KNOW WHAT THINGS COST AND IT DOSE NOT COAT 20 TO SHIP THAT I SHIP AROUND THE WORD DAYLEY!

I keyed this information into USPS price calculator and attached the results

Buyer: I did not ask for priority mail I asked for 5$ snail mail shiping. I can buy them here at my swap meet for 16 $ no shipping that's why I Cleary asked 5$ shipping that a saving for me of 3$ and it is possible sorry for the miss understanding I will ask eBay to return them when they come and will have to pay double shipping when returned thankyou God Bless

Sounds like the buyer sent you an offer and included a note that they wanted cheaper shipping.

Offers are for the item only. It states right below in red that offers are item only and do not include shipping.

If they buyer wants to return the item once it gets there, it will be a remorse return.

Save all the messages...

Shipping is not negotiable ... 

If the buyer request a return depending on the reason will depend on your next action.

the first thing to do is put this buyer on your "BLOCKED BIDDER " list.

Watch! The buyer will use "Not as described" that will hit you with the shipping, If the buyer does so you would need to report buyer, I would just accept a $10.00 adjustment to the buyer and move on..

And then polite ask them if they would like to cancel that order and hope they say yes.

OH HECK NO!!!

No way, nadda, not on your life, when pigs fly....would I ever give them an adjustment. I would give them the option to cancel, period.

My reply would be something like this:

Dear _____, 

Your offer was apreciated but make offers do not change the listed s/h, only the item price.

Your statement of "snail mail" I take to mean ground shipping (correct me if I am wrong) I can do but really it is not going to be $5, in fact the postage for Retail Ground from the USPS website from my zip code to yours for the weight of the package (2 pounds 3 ounces), is $17.35 . Please also note that due to the covid19 issue the normal ground shipping time, already kinda long is going to probably be longer at this time.

Personally since she messaged one day after shipping I think it was all on purpose to try to get a partial refund once she knew you'd be on the hook for shipping both ways when she files a case

As soon as the buyer received the sconces he opened a return; Reason: Doesn't match description or photos. And in the details he wrote: "It does match the description but....." and went on a long rant about the shipping price. I reported the buyer to e-bay. I don't know what e-bay did but within 24 hours the buyer had closed the return and left positive feedback.

So happy all ended well.
