On any item weighing more than 1 pound, and regardless of the option I select when listing the item, the default package choice is 'Priority Mail Envelope (9 1/2" x 12 1/2")'. A price is calculated for the item but I have now way of confirming its accuracy. The mailing label will show Priority Mail Envelope but I don't know if the bar code will reject the item because of its size and dimensions.
Starting last year, I have called eBay several times but the people I have spoken to do not know why or how the problem started nor how to fix it.
My default to get an accurate label us to use Paypal's label making option, but I don't know how much longer this will be available now that eBay and PayPal are no longer joined at the hip. Any thoughts?

switch to pirateship.com (and most likely you will never look back).
They import your orders from ebay and post back the tracking numbers. You can also purchase insurance for both domestic and int'l orders. You can use 1st class up to 15.9 ozs. Furthermore, you enter the dimensions and weight, and you get several options how to mail your package. You can also generate SCAN forms.
Lot of people use it (it's a free account). They are virtually a glitch flee site.

First of all it is a default CHOICE not a command. You can change what ever eBay selects. It has to default to something so that is what they have picked. IGNORE IT.
Use whatever package or mail type you want.
But as the previous poster has said, Pirateship is an excellent alternative. I have been using it for years. NO FEARS.
