Hi everyone,
I ordered an item a while back and on the 8th the item departed my local distribution center and was, from what I assume, on the way to my local post office to be delivered to me. However, I never received any kind of update and still do not have the package. This is not the seller's fault, but am wondering what I should do. I have left voicemails, opened missing mail cases, and have sent emails, which have all lead to nowhere with USPS. Rather than blame the seller, I feel obligated to figure this out for myself as the package is indeed in my immediate area and I have ordered enough things in my life to understand it is out of the seller's hands at this point as they shipped in a timely manner. I am just having an issue with the package getting the rest of the way to me. Needless to say, I am quite concerned that the package was right here and then somehow seems to have disappeared. Weird things have been happening with USPS lately, but this is a new one for me.

It is not your responsibility to call etc USPS to try to figure out what's taking place with your package. As was posted below, follow the steps per ebay guideline if you have not received the package. Don't miss the deadline. I am a seller and it is the seller's duty to help you and if they need help from you, it is up to them to contact you after they have been informed that you have not received the package.
You seem to be a nice person so if there is still time, contact the seller before you file a case (pick I have a question about using my item...not I haven't received the package). If the seller does not respond or is uncooperative, file a case. That's all you need to do.

The USPS website shows, "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility." I think you'll receive it.
For your protection, you can open an Item Not Received claim one day past the Estimated Delivery Date on the order. You have a wide window... give the item a bit more time (if you'd like) but check the timeline in the case.

You want to "do something" to potentially goose the package along?
Start the several step Missing Mail process as that sometimes helps get things moving.

Sounds like you have done everything you can to move this item along. There are still some parts of the USPS that are clogged with backlogs dude to COVID and HUGE Volumes. Very little gets lost or stolen in transit, but 'late' is fairly common these days/
Looks like you aren't going to be able to move this along or get the USPS to bend to your will. At this point you can file an INR claim one day after the last EDD, Then sit back with an Adult Beverage and watch things play out.

Call the 800 number on the usps web site. They can pull up a lot more info than what is on line.

Just make sure to open an INR (item not received) case before the deadline to do so, at least on eBay. See here -- https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy...

As others have posted, you need to follow the timelines to protect yourself.
If you contact the seller you can let them know that you have been waiting, following the delay, but that you will be following the eBay guidelines for buyer protection.
If you are refunded because of non delivery, and the item shows up you can always repay the seller.

Since it's Media Mail, it might show up in a month or so.
You can give it a little more time, but I wouldn't wait to long to file an INR.

Do they have to repay ? Can ebay demand repayment or is it on an honor system\em
