I just sold an item offering local pickup as an option. The buyer said he would like to use this option and pay me in cash on pickup. After reviewing many posts on this forum regarding local pickups, this appears to be the best way to handle this.
So I started to send the buyer my contact information, but the form was surrounded by eBay messages warning me NOT to send contact information--that they monitor these messages and it may not be delivered. So I called eBay to get clarification. The person I spoke with didn't seem that knowledgeable and kept putting me on hold. First he told me the person first had to pay through PayPal before I could send him my information for "both of our protection." When I protested that since eBay owns PayPal, it seems that only eBay is benefiting since how are the buyer and seller not protected if he hands me the money and I give him the item? After putting me on hold again, he came back and said that the buyer should go in and select "pay in cash" as the option, and then I could send him my contact information.
What would experienced sellers recommend that I do? At this point, I'm not trusting the answer I received from the eBay Rep.

eBay doesn't own PayPal.

Thanks for the correction--I didn't realize they had parted ways. I still need to know how I should handle this sale.

lacemaker3,
I tried that, using the link you sent, and I received this reply:
"This feature has been deprecated"
I had to look up the meaning of "deprecated." Why didn't they just say discontinued?

Here is the link from Help and Contact that relates. It may help. Oops! I had to back up and put the link in.

mycarolinavintage,
Thanks for the suggestion. I did review these instructions, but since I've already listed the item, I couldn't figure out how to make this change:
"In your payment options, select Pay on pickup and any other payment methods you'd like to accept."
So I went to a different item that I'm selling that's still in draft form, but I couldn't figure out how to do it there either. I tried going to my preferences page, to see if I could set up something there and couldn't find anything.
Has anyone figured out how to add "Pay on Pickup?"
