I'm **bleep** - if you list an item consisting of multiple items sold together that will require them packed and shipped in multiple cartons, you can't set up the shipping to indicate multiple cartons and weights so that the buyer will be invoiced the total cost for all. I just complained about this but its been this way seemingly for years - why don't they fix this?????

eBay obviously does not eat its own dog food.

You could add the additional package costs to the listing as a handling fee. Include a special shipping note section in the listing explaining exactly what shipping and handling fees include. Since you do not know where the customer lives you would need to include the maximum possible cost for each additional carton within the handling fee.
Refund buyers any major shipping overage. The disadvantage of this method is that after May 7, 2019, PayPal update you will not get PayPal's 2.9% fee back on the refund.

Explain in the main listing that the lot requires multiple boxes and requires shipping upgrades. The main listing includes shipping costs for item A only. Other items will only be shipped if the buyer purchases one or more shipping upgrades.
In order to have item B shipped the buyer will be required to purchase shipping upgrade B from you. Use a generic picture for the upgrade.
In order to have item C shipped the buyer will be required to purchase shipping upgrade C from you. Use a generic picture for the upgrade.
Create eBay listings for shipping upgrades B & C with weight and package sizes for items B & C.
List the main item. Place a link to the main listing's URL within upgrades B & C. List upgrades B & C. Go back to the main listing and insert links for the upgrades.
The disadvantage of this method is that someone could refuse to purchase the upgrades and you would need to generate a refund for the main listing. After May 7, 2019, PayPal update you will not get PayPal's 2.9% fee back on the refund. This benefit of this method is that you do not loose the 2.9% on shipping for items B & C.

They have ... they did it about 12-18 months ago.
For such a shipment, you would need to determine the shipping charges to each shipping zone, and then set up a domestic shipping rate table that would vary depending upon the buyer location.

I ship large heavy dish sets that require multiple boxes. I weigh the total pieces use the largest size box I think I will use then add 10 pounds to the estimated weight. Works well for years.
Very rarely am I overcharging the customer nor do I cut my nose off despite my face

What are you talking about? I'm speaking of a single order that requires multiple packages to be shipped to the same destination ....
Using the Shipping Tables option in your Shipping Preferences, you can set up a customized shipping cost table which would include the cost of shipping both boxes. Unfortunately, it goes by region or state (or sections of states) not by postal zone, so it's only an approximation. So if the cost of shipping one speaker to Florida is $20, you would set up a shipping table that charges $40 to ship to FL.
