Item sent with tracking, last seen was at local post office but never updated

I bought something and got a tracking number from seller.

The item is in the post office, and the last update was "arrived at unit"

It was never dispatched (out for delivery)

I contacted the post office and you know, they are so short-staffed and it takes 6 months to find a missing article.  Should I contact eBay?  I trusted the seller had sent the item.  Thanks.

well,when was this ?

did you get the item or you just care about tracking?

call 1-800-USps CUSTomer service and they will email your local pos office to look into it if you have not received the item.

our local post office often have trainees who just do not scan every package, sometimes when it gets too late or too dark or too cold, they just go home with your package .

it is not a easy job for those unprepared.

What is the latest delivery estimate and when did it arrive at the post office? It doesn’t take them 6 months to find a missing package. Go down down and speak to someone

Re: Item sent with tracking, last seen was at local post office but never updated

Estimated delivery was Fri, Jun 08 - Thu, Jun 14
Even though it arrived at the post office so late (6/20/2018), I was still patience to wait a bit.
I think at this point, I should contact eBay for a case. I just did not want to ruin the seller's account since it was not his/her fault.

I know things happened that's not we could control. I once had a missing article reported to the post office and after 2 years, they still could not find it. I was the buyer doing the return, so the seller did not get my item and I was not refunded. The post office kept sending me notifications every 3 months telling me "they are trying hard to find my missing article"

Yes go ahead and file an item not received case. The seller can’t do much more than you’ve already done. If the package shows up, you can always repay the seller or send the item back.

It happened to me many times. I always go directly to that post office with the tracking

number and make them look for it. Worked for me.

Re: Item sent with tracking, last seen was at local post office but never updated

Your item has been sitting at your local post office for 9 days now... (why are folks replying 6 months?) it's not the seller's fault. I get buyers on very rare occasions (I think the last time this happened to me with an item I shipped was 3 years ago).

As a seller, I personally can't do anything but ask the buyer to go to the local post office and talk to the Postmaster. The item is there at the post office. It really doen't matter if they are "short staffed". You are a customer of the USPS and they need to get you your package!

If the item is lost, you can file a claim with the US Postal Service (USPS) and if the item was sent Priority Mail, you have $50 in insurance. They may bump the refund to full value as well... but it depends on who you talk to there.

Ebay and the seller should not be involved or penalized for doing their job

Re: Item sent with tracking, last seen was at local post office but never updated

Ok, I think that the local post office could depart the item without scan "departed post office". The next scan should be: "arrived distribution center" but in many cases (mine) distribution center doesn't care about a scan.

I had the same situation one month ago. Scanned for "arrived post office" and later nothing, just in transit, in transit and again in transit and item showed up in Florida distribution center.

But it's super long in transit, so I would call USPS. I never use 1-800 because it's hard to get someone alive there so I call direct USPS number. 678-279-7980. Just open a case - they will find a package in one day.

Not buyers job to file a claim

Buyer should check with their post office. If no package, then as jen said, open an INR in the resolution center.

It is the sellers responsibility to get the purchase to the buyer.

Correct. And there is nothing to suggest that the package is actually sitting at the OPs post office. Arrival at unit doesn’t mean it’s been sitting there for 9 days. If the tracking said notice left or available for pickup, we would have all told the OP to get his butt down to the PO to pick up his package.

Yup, buyer could do the courtesy of checking at the PO (they want the item if possible) but we know that the responsibility falls back on the seller if the item is lost, be it 5 minutes after dropping off at USPS, or anywhere along the way.

Take the tracking number and go to the post office. Ask for a supervisor. Most likely your package is sitting on a shelf waiting for you to pick it up.
Hope you find it!

Re: Item sent with tracking, last seen was at local post office but never updated

So, I went to the post office this morning and talked to the manager.  He had searched the office and could not find the package.  He wasn't sure what's going on either, so he said he would redirect the issue to the sorting manager and have him to find out.  I just hope they could find it.

I wonder if the package was dropped to a different address?  If yes, it would be the neighbor to bring it back to me if he is nice?  I am starting to feel my package would never be found...
