Item not received issue help!

Okay so about two weeks ago I shipped an item off that I sold to my local post office. About a week later they still hadn’t scanned the package saying they received it. I wasn’t too concerned because my post office does this a lot and once waited 3 weeks to scan a package. The buyer messaged me about it and I was really helpful and told her that I would file a lost package case because that tends to make the post office move faster. The buyer was satisfied with my response, but then the very next day she files a report saying that she never received the package. I messaged her in the report and told her that I just said I was going to contact the post office yesterday why did you open a report? She never replied so I’m the report it said I had to provide tracking information. So I put in the tracking number but then today I got an email saying the case is closed and they gave a refund because the tracking shows the item wasn’t delivered. What should I do? Because I know the package is going to be delivered eventually and I’m going to be out of money and merchandise.

With no tracking, there isn't much you can do.

There's no proof you shipped the package so filing a claim with USPS won't do much good.

Have a great day.

If by "About a week later they still hadn’t scanned the package saying they received it" you mean that YOUR PO did not scan it as being in receipt of the item, then your PO did you a great disservice.

I do drop off my pkgs without waiting for them to scan them BUT I have already said to myself...so help me, if they EVER not scan a pkg as not being picked up/received/in USPS hands/whatever, and that pkg does not arrive at it's destination, I WILL wait in that line every time, clog up their line with yet another body for them to process my pkgs right then & there (not at their convenience anymore) and when they tell me that "oh...you can just drop those pkgs in here" I will them them no and why I will no longer do so...

Sorry but maybe that it what you may have to do in the future if you want to avoid the risk of it not being scanned in as picked up.

^^^^^ this ^^^^^^^^^   Ding, ding, ding

What you experienced is why many of us s*ck it up and stand in line to get our packages scanned and walk out with a receipt.  Proof of shipping helps with buyers and it keeps our seller metrics in tip top shape for shipping with in our stated handling time.

You really need to wait in line and have the post office scan each and every package.

I get daily USPS pickup but sometimes they send a fat lazy pig substitute carrier and she won't scan them so I don't give them to her. I say "no thank you" and get in my car and go wait in line in the post office (if she is too lazy to scan them now while I am watching of course she will be too lazy to scan them when she gets back to the station)

In this case where there is no scan, there is absolutely nothing you can do. Buyer opens case, you need to refund it.

It is interesting to me that FedEx and UPS almost never miss a scan and will replace the bar code if need be.  USPS gives good service sometimes and other times not.  I have a USPS package sent  to Florida that has not been scanned for 13 days and don't know what happened to it.  It could have been delivered or is sitting in a warehouse in Miami, who knows?  Filed a missing mail search 5 days ago but have not heard anything.  Just wish that USPS was more consistent with their scanning.  Told my mail carrier thank you for scanning my packages when picking up as it is important for sellers who sell online.  Would use FedEx much more, except my low priced items are not worth the added expense.

That's because Fed Ex and UPS were born with tracking, and the USPS had added it in while in their old age.

But remember, USPS delivers everywhere. It's not going away. It's as much a part of history in this country as anything. Plus, they really took a beating last year and this so far due to the virus(including workers out ill), the election, the volume, and the weather. I've also been getting alerts from Fed Ex just about every day for the past week regarding delays, so everyone is having problems.

There is nothing that I would order online that I need immediately or even in the immediate future(since I only buy antiques here), so I don't mind the delays. If something I bought doesn't come this week, well, it can go in the shop next week instead. I don't complain - it always comes. I don't believe that I've ever had to file an INR in 23 years here(nor had one opened against me).

I do have a tracking number. The post office just hasn’t scanned so it says post office awaits package

Yes, I’ve accepted the fact that I need to do this because once they didn’t scan two of my packages for three weeks. Thank goodness those buyers were patient and understanding, after that it may have taken 3-4 days for them to scan most things, but then I dropped off 7 packages and none of them were scanned for about three weeks. They recently just got scanned but ironically the ones that filed INR claims still haven’t been scanned.
