Item not in box

I ordered jewelry, star of David from Isreal. The seller has excellent ratings. My package arrived in US and they was an empty box inside. I don't know if I should tell police,USPS police or what? I have no idea if it was not ever put inside by seller or stolen at customs or our local post office? I am so hurt and untrusting of everyone now. The seller gave my money back but if we were both victims of theft by the mail carriers something needs to be done. I just looked again at the seller store. How can a seller from Isreal have location of UK on their store and the package says Isreal? How can a seller have excellent ratings if they are not real? I'm very untrusting of Ebay now. Was I scammed or both of us victims of theft? Should I report this to our police in the US?

Go to your purchase history and click return item and select, the item doesn't match the description as the reason.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.

Want to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Independence Day.

Open an "Item Not As Described" dispute... no need to call the police or call Ebay or the USPS

If the seller made you whole (refunded you) then you should just let it go as you cannot report a crime if you are NOT out anything. The seller can if they want. Besides, there is no proof of theft and if it 'fell' out, then it's bad packing by the seller.

Don't bother the police. They have better things to do.

I once shipped an empty box .   I bet that is what happened here.  The seller had multiples of the same box. He then put the jewelry in the small jewelry box. Then w/o thinking or distracted, he grabbed the empty jewelry box, packed it in another box and shipped.  Anyway, you were refunded immediately.

In my case, I realized it the next day when I needed to ship another pair of earrings and retrieved a box that had the earrings from the previous sale. I immediately realized my error and contacted the buyer.

You got refunded.  Leave the police alone. It will not go anywhere.  Anyway, if you had to report it, it would be the USPS police.  Did the package looked tampered? If not, again, probably an error by the seller.  (You did state that they had great feedback.

Move on.

If you are really curious, in a few days, see if the listed the same item for sale.
