Hi guys! I started buying a lot more on eBay this year and wanted to ask what I should do.
I ordered an item and paid for shipping. The seller’s return policy was 30-day return and the buyer has to pay for shipping. However, I received the item damaged and, in my opinion, poorly packaged. It was in a small box and wrapped with some brown paper. I think the damage could’ve been avoided if there was some bubble wrap.
I requested a refund and returned the item, but only was refunded for the item. Am I correct in believing that I deserve a refund for the shipping as well? I understand if I was returning it solely because I didn’t want it anymore or if it was purchased by mistake, but I returned it because the item itself was damaged during shipping and I feel like I am obligated to get a refund for the shipping as well in this case.
I would love to hear your thoughts! Please be kind 🙂

Yes, you do. Did you open an actual item not as described case? The seller would have been responsible then to provide you with a return shipping label. But if you already paid for the return shipping, theres no collecting that after the fact.

Thanks for your reply! I did not open a case for a refund, I just requested a refund with the reason being that the item was damaged during shipping.
I still have time to open an actual case, but I figured I’d reach out to the seller first and see if there’s anything that could be done between us before I do that. I have until the end of the month to open up a case if the seller does not agree to refund it to me fully.

Then definitely open a not as described case for the shipping. Because the seller has buyer pays return shipping, thats how he got away with not refunding your return shipping fee, without a case being filed. Always open a case to protect yourself..good luck.

I believe you're talking about the original shipping charge. Did the seller request you return the item or just keep it and refund you? The only way to get the original shipping charge back is to open an item not as described case. The seller is then required to send you a shipping label and fully refund including original shipping charge once it is returned.

The seller requested that I return the item. When I requested the refund, I put down the damage during shipping option.
I opened up my case with the seller didn’t refund shipping option and under details, I explained how it was damaged during shipping and I didn’t receive the item as described. Would that work?
