I am returning an item using the ebay package return label. I went to the return order to indicate I had shipped the item. It asks for the tracking #. When I entered it, I got a message saying the number was already being used in the system. Am I missing something, or did EBAY give me a bogus tracking nbr??

It's OK -- eBay already has that tracking number.
Just waiting for you to put it in the mail.
The "Mark as shipped" is for you to enter a different tracking number --
in case you decided to buy your own tracking number instead.

Oh, OK. It won't allow me to mark as shipped, unless a tracking # is entered. So I just mailed the item, using ebay's return label, and allow it to arrive to seller's addy, and track it myself?

I had a return and had to use my own label. But to get the credit after it got there I had to call eBay customer service to let them know the tracking number and that it had arrived. In my case the option to enter a label was grayed out. This is interesting that you couldn't enter the number. If you have time later post how this one comes out.

If you use a return shipping label issued by Ebay, the tracking number is already added to the return.
You don't have to do anything but get the package scanned when you drop it off and it'll show the package has been shipped in the return.

No, it's OK, you won't need to do that.
After the first scan, eBay will show the tracking:
Subject: Track your return
From: eBay (ebay@ebay.com)
The seller should receive your return soon
Thanks for shipping your item. The seller should issue a refund within 6 days of this being delivered.
View the return details to find the latest status.

So I was able to track the return label's tracking nbr via USPS auomated updates. Seller received the return and promptly refunded.
I wanted to leave positive feedback for this seller even though I sent the item back.
No where in my purchase history or returns can the item be found. It is gone, so now I can't leave the seller pos feedback for great service.
Oh well, moving on.

@designforyou You can leave feedback for the seller here https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/leave_feedback?

Thank you! That worked. Learn something new everyday.

You’re welcome! Glad that worked. It looks like they are now removing the feedback links when the buyer wins a case. Not good at all. They have done it on cancelled transactions for a few years now.
