Is it possible for USPS tracking to be completely BOGUS? I sent this package and tracking has been+

completely strange from the beginning. Bouncing back and forth to post offices/centers near me (the seller) in NY. Then after a huge delay it arrives at destination facility 84198. Google tells me this is Salt Lake City. On the phone USPS worker told me that was in Wyoming, which the the buyer's state. However, since then now it is back in NY? I just feel like these "scans" aren't even legit, but not sure if that's possible. I basically have given up on this but it's really perplexing me. I have called USPS and filed all the inquiries and missing mail cases (first class so I am not getting any refunds on my end) and I get no answers all the cases just get closed. I have honestly never seen this strange of tracking even when packages have taken obviously wrong detours  Thanks for any feedback or even for just taking a look!

At least it's not lost.     The postal service did say packages would take longer to deliver. Also, that holiday surcharge has to be spent on something.

I think I might be able to shed some light on this for you. However, I know that looking at this on a case by case basis, there are many other factors that will come into play. I had ordered a used wiring harness for my washing machine. In transit, it kept bouncing back and forth from facility to facility just like your package did and I could not understand why it was returning to the same facility multiple times. I finally had my ah-HA(!) moment when the package finally arrived 3 days late.  The person who shipped the item did it in a box made from a couple of cardboard beds from the bottom of the cases of some sort of drink (you know, ones wrapped in plastic). The problem was that these pieces of cardboard were completely covered in all types of barcodes. These barcodes should have been scribbled over with a black marker or removed before shipping it out because each time it went to a new facility, the Sorting machines were probably reading the wrong barcodes and getting the package routed all sorts of different ways that it didn't need to be going especially through the same facility more than once!  Hope that helps!

Yes I have seen that happen.    The " pong " effect.  There is an 800 number on the USPS web site.  They can pull up a lot more info than what is on line.  I have had several packages get unstuck by calling them.
