Is it possible for USPS tracking to be completely BOGUS? I sent this package and tracking has been+

completely strange from the beginning. Bouncing back and forth to post offices/centers near me (the seller) in NY. Then after a huge delay it arrives at destination facility 84198. Google tells me this is Salt Lake City. On the phone USPS worker told me that was in Wyoming, which the the buyer's state. However, since then now it is back in NY? I just feel like these "scans" aren't even legit, but not sure if that's possible. I basically have given up on this but it's really perplexing me. I have called USPS and filed all the inquiries and missing mail cases (first class so I am not getting any refunds on my end) and I get no answers all the cases just get closed. I have honestly never seen this strange of tracking even when packages have taken obviously wrong detours  Thanks for any feedback or even for just taking a look!

Last month I had the same problem with my package bouncing around and back and forth between Los Angeles and Portland Oregon.  Then they closed the case with no resolution.  No one ever answers a phone.

Try this number for Consumer Affairs given to me by a Postal Clerk. I had a package with only the original scan and no other tracking for over 2 weeks. I called this number and gave them my info and the next day it was movement and the next day it was delivered to the buyer. I had no idea even what state it was in, it was going from NC to DE.

Thanks so much. I just saw your post above and was going to ask you for the number. I absolutely agree with you that USPS has been improving since the holidays. This is my last remaining item and I have been very grateful that all my other packages showed up eventually. I understand what USPS is up against and am generally very appreciative and satisfied with their services.

Honestly while that used to be unusual with tracking like that it's not anymore. 

It is happening and bouncing around. In most cases it gets cleared up and delivered. Hopefully soon

Yes, it got there this past Thursday. I guess it was not destroyed as I have yet to hear such from the buyer.

I had this happen to a package shipped out of Virginia. I went to the local distribution center and while the person helping me would not put anything in writing he explained what was happening. Due to the lack of trucks and planes USPS was shoving excess packages into temporary warehouse storage or in parked semi trailers. So the package would depart the post office to the warehouse or truck and return a few days later, again sorted and departed again to a warehouse or truck until they finally managed to get it back and really ship it out of their locality to the next distribution center not a warehouse or parked truck.

Truthfully I still don't know as USPS never updated the case with any delivery information.  It was shipped to a freight forwarder in Portland Oregon.  They just closed the research case after emailing me a response.  I waited some more and then tried both reopening it and tried calling when it never updated with delivery confirmation.  No response to date.  I have kept the money available for a refund in the event the buyer opens a claim.  This what they emailed me.

I have been selling on eBay for over 10years but during the Pandemic I have noticed some excessive delays above normal and what I call the USPS Ping Pong effect, as mentioned above. My carrier told that many USPS Distribution Facilities are under staffed, with people out sick. And the Winter Weather has effected the carriers in the flooded locations.  So the Bottom line for me is to be a little more patient than normal.

Those govt workers at USPS got to get their act together!  I know that being employed as a govt worker has its great benefits (retirement, much better wages than private companies, medical benefits, etc).  Imagine working a few years till Social Security tells me that I can retire after 10 yrs of service! I would be a happy camper!  If you guys at USPS don't like the job,  by all means....quit so others who appreciate a govt job can do so with pride and dedication!   Yes...I do often times worry about purchases bought on ebay with the seller being from NYC....a few packages never did even arrive in my state!! So when I buy stuff online,  I make sure its not a NY seller.  But given this last purchase.....my patience level will start to rise if I dont receive it by the end of this week.   where I reside,  the distribution center is tops so once the package arrives here,  its only a matter of a day when I receive it.

Want to hear of a scary but true occurence?  I work at a newspaper publishing co.  Often times,  I have to assist in packing of mass mailing of customers orders.  When I "wring out" the bulk mail bags to be organized to be ready for loading,  often I would see an envelope fly out of the bag....its a piece of customer mail that possibly they ordered from the internet.  I then would hold onto it til I could either deliver it myself to that business location OR give it to the BMEU (Business Mail Entry Unit) in my town where I deliver our mass mailings out to.   btw...how come I have those bags?  well....companies here call the supply person and they fill our request for bulk bags,  mail trays, etc.  We go pick up the supplies and bring it back to the shop and leave it in a stockroom (only use it when mass mailings happen....and due to the pandemic,  its been very slow and God knows how long the packages are in the bag UNTIL I wring out the bags for processing).   Thats why UPS and FedX still exists.....they use their own jets and vehicles to make sure the paid parcels and letters MAKE IT from A to Z.
