Is it OK to change this shipping address & not jeopardize seller protection for INR?

This is an odd one. The buyer manually typed in La instead of choosing Louisiana from the drop-down. Because it's not a valid entry, when I attempt to print the shipping label through eBay it populates Alabama (default- first state on the list) in the state field and kicks it out as an invalid address.

If I manually change it to Louisiana- same zip code, same everything else- will eBay consider that a change worthy of losing INR protection?

Why does eBay accept an address like this in the first place and allow the buyer to use it when placing an order? tyler@ebay brian@ebay  We need better address verification systems in place- before the buyer is able to purchase.

I don't want to cancel and have the buyer re-purchase- I'm probably just going to change it because the zip code is correct and the part of the address I'm changing will match what the buyer manually entered. My deadline to ship is today.

I can't upload a (redacted) screenshot because there's yet another board glitch- "You do not have permission to upload images" red banner.

OK- going back to edit allowed me to upload the screenshot.

@coffeebean832 as long as you aren't changing the street address or zip code then you'll be ok. The address and zip code is what we review if needed.

The best thing is to cancel something wrong with the buyers address and have them reorder them to to avoid a headache down the road.

It'll be fine to change it as long as the zip code is correct.

When printing a shipping label, the state should autofill according to the zip code.

Should being the operative word. That's not how eBay coded it.

This is fine, have had the same issues in the past. This is the correct way to fix it.

The mere fact that you feel compelled to ask speaks volumes about the present state of affairs on this website.

To the title of this topic. Change the address and you are NOT protected against a item not received case.

That's the way I was looking at it, to many scams going on.

But you are NOT CHANGING the address. You are only correcting the SPELLING of the STATE.

I suspect your buyer may get miffed and not bother to buy it again. I say you are safe.

It's not a spelling issue- the buyer manually typed in La instead of choosing Louisiana from the drop down. Since a manual entry is not valid, eBay automatically populated the shipping label with the first alphabetical state- Alabama.

Technically I did change the address on the shipping label from Alabama to Louisiana- but at the same time I used the state the buyer attempted to manually enter on the order. I don't know how eBay will view that- as a change or not.

Since the zip is the same and I was following the buyer's manual state entry I'm hoping it's ok since this was a $70 order. I did change it right after writing the above post this morning- but I still hope one of the eBay guys will weigh in with more info on this.

Well the buyer may and usually is honest. It is most likely that this will go through and work for you.

Just remember in times to come: if a problem with addy, contact purchaser and see if they will request a cancelL then relist so they can purchase, after getting addy straight. That way every one is covered.
