I had a minor issue with an item sold (I posted about it earlier). I think it is all worked out and that the buyer will be happy when all arrives. This particular buyer leaves positive feedback to most everyone and seemed to appreciate the communication. The abridged story is one of two items (a power adapter for the main item) was bad, and I discovered it before shipping AND proactively arranged to get a replacement item shipped concurrently. I did the best I could, but that second item (drop shipped) will arrive a day later; I have communicated this in addition to the tracking number.
The buyer seems totally fine with all of it, but it was still ultimately my blunder.
That said, I would like to be generous and return $5 to the buyer as a partial refund even though the buyer has not requested it, and I doubt I will get a neg. It simply feels like the right thing to do.
IF I issue a partial refund via PayPal, will that result in a defect? I searched these forums, and it appears that as of 2017 the answer was "no." Does anybody know if issuing a partial refund not in conjunction with a case or anything is okay, or will it cause eBay to spite me when they otherwise have no indication there was ever an issue (unless they read our messages back and forth).
Thank you

No.
If you do, make sure to issue the refund through the original Pay Pal transaction.
