So I purchased something as of late. Received updates telling me that it was arriving sooner than I expected only to learn that it was being returned to the sender due to insufficient address. But here’s the thing the place it listed in the tracking wasn’t even close to where I live and I never input my address incorrectly. So what happened was it the sender fault or the delivery service?

This is a well-known scam @diclonius because eBay considers Insufficient address to be Delivered.
The seller mails junk to an undeliverable address, the junk is Return to sender, the seller keeps your payment and only wasted some postage, an Item not received case you start on eBay will close without a refund, and feedback will be blocked/removed if already left.
Unlike eBay, PayPal and your card issuer are not stupid; they actually require to see "Delivered".
Don't contact your seller, to ask where's your item. Instead, file an Item not received dispute here, then click Escalate to PayPal immediately to get a refund in 11 days. Or file a chargeback at your card issuer, to get a provisional refund the same or the next day.

When I (and I assume all other sellers) print a shipping label the address is automatically filled in based on what the buyer entered with the purchase. I don't see how this could be the seller's error.
A common "insufficient" problem is an apartment building missing an apartment number. Or a simple typo on the part of the buyer. There are others. But if the PO address checker catches the insufficiency before it get to the local post office it may kick it back immediately instead of waiting for it to make the last leg.

Was your apartment number or box number missing on the address?

You should contact the seller, if they can't figure it out, then you come to Ebay customer service.
