Insufficient Address - Buyer asked to change to USPS pickup

I sold a book to a customer but their address listed on the shipping label eBay provided me was incorrect because the tracking# says it is an INSUFFICIENT ADDRESS. Entering the tracking# on usps.com says the same and that it's being returned to sender. It was shipped Media Mail if that matters.

The customer messages me after attempted delivery and says they contacted USPS about it, but USPS doesn't give them the option to pick it up locally. I replied and copy/pasted the address I had to confirm the address with them, and they replied and gave me an updated address. But then the customer messaged me a third time and says that I can change it so they can pick it up at a local USPS location.

Is this something I can actually do, or is it too late and my only option is to wait for the book to be returned to me and then handle it from there?

If it is actually on its way back to you, then all you can do is await its arrival and go from there.

Personally, I would, when it gets back, cancel, citing problem with buyer's address.  And I'd refund only the item price, not the shipping.

Maybe your buyer will eventually figure out what he's doing, but I don't see why you would need to be his learning campus.

Even if you could change the address, you don't want to. It just sets you up for an INR case. Always mail to the address originally provided.

Once the item is returned to you, refund the cost of the item.  If they still want the item, they can purchase it again. I would not refund the shipping cost as they provided an incorrect address.

Personally, would consider blocking that buyer for reasons I mentioned in my other post.

True. It may only get worse if they try again.

Re: Insufficient Address - Buyer asked to change to USPS pickup

"Media Mail" can be sticky...here's my question. When you did "shipping label eBay provided"...I don't do eBay labels so it's more of a thought. I have used "Media Mail" and I prefer to walk the item into the post office to make sure there are no problems. So it has to be a "book" of course which you said it was...something else in the package will not be delivered but returned. The package has to be where it is written on the package "Media Mail"preferable in black ink....for no problems of it getting to the buyer. I am not sure if media mail is printed on a eBay shipping label where someone can read it.

And Me going to the post office when such a package is getting a shipping label from the post office the machine that I see will confirm address. Now, if the address is incorrect the clerk will tell me right then and there...there is a problem with the address and cannot be mailed until the address is corrected.

And the package will state what the problem was when it is returned to you. USPS usually writes something on the package why it wasn't delivered. Incorrect postage usually item is returned to seller...which maybe USPS didn't think it was a book.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I will await it's return, cancel and refund them minus shipping costs.
