I was very new to eBay but had an account for a long time. I sold an item and the buyer wanted a refund, I issued the refund but my address for my account was my old home I no longer live in. I’m almost certain it was delivered there because the buyer says that he shipped it back.
What do I do now…

Was there a request for refund case opened or did the buyer just ask your for a refund through messages? If there was a request opened you can check the tracking of the item there if it was returned. BUT If you already refunded through a request then don't expect to see your item. Because you jumped the gun and refunded before recieving the item back the buyer is not under any obligation to return the item to you.
Make sure your addresses are correct so this won't be an issue in the future.

If you haven't refunded yet, you'll have to refund once tracking shows it was delivered.
Edit your addresses to make sure they are all correct.

Make sure that your address is correct. You can add a change of address at the post office if you have not done so. It will be good for at least 6 months and mail sent there will be forwarded to you. Anyway, follow the advice of the other posters.

So did you issue a refund, or did you approve a Return request?
I ask, because if you approved a Return and provided a label for your buyer, it would have been made out to your 'Return' address on file. If that is the case, I hope that you have a forwarding order in with USPS. 🤞
If you only issued a refund outside of a Return, then the only address your buyer had when he "shipped it back" was the one that you put on the label when you shipped the item, no? Maybe it's on its way to where you are. 🤞
