So I sold an item recently and dropped it off at USPS with about 10 other sold items. All the other packages get delivered just fine, besides one. Now 2 weeks later, it still says, "Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting Item" I know I dropped them all off together and they must have just missed scanning one in with the christmas rush. But the buyer is now asking about it and is about to open an item not received claim. My question is, will shipcover approve this claim as a lost package? I specifically bought insurance because USPS has been losing a lot of my packages recently, but I never imagined they would lose it before it even gets scanned once. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I'm not familliar with them but their website says:
Have you went to the website to see the specifics?? I would suggest going there and see and or follow their requirements for claims. Click on the label you purchased and start a claim and, according to their site, will take you step by step and I would assume that it would let you know the earliest date you could file the claim for that item. Good luck!

Thanks, I did look at that, and I cant file a claim for another week. But I couldn't find anything on whether they accept claims for items that were never scanned into the post office. I was just curious if should expect to lose the claim so I can plan accordingly but I def plan to try and see.

Did you get a drop off receipt from the Post Office? I always make sure I do. This is your "proof" of mailing if they try and use the excuse you never took it to the PO.

You dropped them off at the PO but you didn't wait for them scan? I always get a scan receipt when I go to the PO. The PO here is notorious for not scanning. I too, have had pacakges get picked up and not scanned. But once the item receaches the buyers location VIOLA they get scans for delivery. That can benywhere between 3-6 days after the post office has picked them up.

I usually do if the item is expensive, but I did not for this one. It was during the Christmas rush and there was like a dozen people in line and I was on my lunch break dropping off so I didnt have enough time. I know its my fault for not getting a drop off receipt but sucks waiting in line for 45 minutes when USPS should just do a better job and scan items properly. Oh well. Thanks for the response.

That's a good question. Like I said I've not used it but from what I read and understood you of course can't file with both services so I would think that to investigate a lost package claim some kind of tracking trail would have to show the last scan showed no movement from last facility in a certain amount of days. Not getting some kind of scan within a certain amount of time is going to be a problem because its going to appear that you printed the label, didn't ship, and trying to file claims on non-existent parcels. Not saying you are just that, if anything, is going to be your barrier in filing/winning a lost package claim.

Thanks for the reply. I was on my lunch break and there was a dozen people in line with only one worker so I didnt have time to wait 45+ minutes. I drop stuff off daily to this same post office for past 2 years and not once have they missed scanning anything in so I felt pretty safe. Ive had items get lost mid delivery, but never like this. I'm hoping it eventually shows up and tracking gets updated but just a little worried and curious on if shipcover even helps with this. I will update this post when I find out what they say.

Yeah that's what I figured and was afraid of. They have no proof that I am not just lying about dropping it off. It would be fraud and I would be an idiot risking that, but it sucks that I could lose an insurance claim because USPS messed up while scanning. I know I should have got a drop off receipt, but that would have taken 45 mins with the long Christmas line, and it shouldn't be unreasonable for me to expect that USPS will do their job and scan packages but guess that's asking too much. Sorry rant over.

This is for future reference but If the item wasn't expensive I don't think purchasing the extra insurance would haven't been worth the cost. I don't know what your "not expensive" is but my view is under $100 in which case if the item was going priority you have up to $100 included with the label. Again I don't know your items value but for something over that amount may worth buying Shipcover as supposedly claims are easier to win and paid out very quickly.

It was First Class so there was no included insurance like in priority, but it was $80 so I kind of felt that the $1.75 for shipcover would be worth it when I read that 10% of Christmas packages get lost around Christmas. I usually only do it for first class items that are like $75+ or so. But yeah guess I have to wait in line everyday if Im shipping anything $50+

Update: Item just showed up on tracking so will not be needing to file a claim. Thanks for all the replies.

The problem is that other people do lie. This is why the machines invthe lobby are no good for ebay sellers. You get a receipt but unless the package is scanned at the sorting facility you have zero proof.
chain of custody thing. So unless you have proof they got it, I think your out of luck.
