Import fees

Hi

A listing is listed on eBay.co.uk with the price in gbp and says free postage,  however in the item description it says it’s being sent from the USA.

the listing doesn’t have the usual price in usd, converted to gbp, it’s as though it’s been listed on eBay. Co.uk

Normally if something is from another country it’s listed in that countries currency and shows it converted to your local currency. Question is, if I buy it and a customs charge comes through the door, have I got a leg to stand on to say I’m not paying it? And to return it.

cheers

Re: Import fees

Best not to temp fate.

You see the problem and still bid, and you are just asking for the trouble that goes with it.

Re: Import fees

I am a seller in US and I only sell on US ebay site. I could also list on ebay's UK site but I would have to pay extra for international exposure. So it seems like the seller is indeed in US just listing on the UK site.

Only purchase up to 20 GBP (I think, you need to check it) are tax free. Then you have to pay your VAT tax and Royal mail's 8 GBP admin fee.

I just sent something to UK worth ca $60 and the buyer had to pay extra 11 GBP + 8 GBP Royal Mail fee.

Re: Import fees

Free postage and import charges are not the same thing.  Free postage means that when you make the purchase, they will not charge extra for shipping the item to you. Unless the seller is shipping through the gsp which charges any applicable import fees  (taxes/duty/other fees) ahead of time, any international sale may have import fees...that will be decided by UK customs and is not in the seller's control.
