Import Duties

I am looking at purchasing some capacitors from a seller,  in Hong Kong. In the listing it states that price does not include duties but we try to keep them low. How do I find what duties are? The total is under $5.00.

There is no duty for an item valued at $5 for import to US.

The listing also stated taxes, is that the same as duties? At what total does this start?

Anything under $800 is tax/duty free.

Your bigger problem is not duty or taxes but rather "fake" or exaggerated specifications of capacitance, though I'd doubt it at the $5 level unless you ordered a large electrolytic device then it is undoubtedly fake.

I do buy some caps from Asia, mostly film or mylar for crossovers but the bigger $ filter caps I source locally so I can return them when my ESR meter says otherwise.
