If I payed through a prepaid debit, and return the item, can the money be refunded through PayPal?

If I purchased an item using a prepaid debit card, then returned it for a full refund, does the refunded money go back onto the prepaid debit automatically , go into PayPal automatically, or does the seller have a choice of where to refund the money to? I would like the money to go into PayPal, but I'm not sure this is possible.

It should go back to your original funding source

Are you trying to use your debit card as an ATM  transaction to avoid a fee?

No, the prepaid debit card has since been lost. If the money refunds onto it, it's essentially gone for me.

The refund would go back to the card and you would have to call the number on the back of the card to get the refunded credited to the card balance.
