I would love it if eBay block sellers from listing items ( catalogues for one) with media mail as an option. Would be great is media mail is ONLY available IF the item listed IS media that qualifies for media mail rate.

Along with auto parts, hats, clothing, toys and so on.
It shouldn't be to hard to block those other categories.

Not everyone knows catalogs can't go media. I mean they do look like books. The post office looks in many media mail packages and back bills the seller if the items are not allowed.

A seller can put Media Mail on any item, but eBay won't let them buy a MM label for it unless it is in an "approved" (by eBay) category for MM... which is actually completely pointless, because a seller who wants to cheat Media Mail can just buy a MM label on Pirate Ship. Some categories are not allowed to print a MM label even if they qualify for MM (according to the USPS DMM). It is a mess.

Been a problem forever! Not much you can do about it. Life is too short.

Now that Media Mail costs about the same as UPS Ground, I use UPS for books. I don't have to worry about the strict Media Mail rules and the possibility of an inspection and sloppy re-packaging by a USPS employee.

Personally, I'd prefer that eBay do something useful -- like vet sellers before they are allowed to list.

USPS should just eliminate media mail. Why continue giving a break for some items and offer something that can be so easily abused?
