I was just told Monday doesn't count as a business day on returns.

A buyer opened a return over the weekend. They have 5 business days to return the item and did not. I sent a request to close out the return as was just told Monday doesn't count as a business day when the return is opened on a weekend. That is the most insane thing I have ever heard. I have closed out multiple returns that were opened on the weekend after 5 business days. What kind of crooked logic is that? I have to ship items bought on the weekend on Mondays or get a late shipment mark. I am so mad right now

Would the logic follow that you could close  it on a Saturday? IJS...

What? He didnt send it back in 5 business days. I have closed out every other return on Saturdays with no problem whatsoever. Now all of a sudden Monday doesn't count as a business day? That is nuts

Are you referring to a recent Monday where it was a holiday? When banks are closed and the mail fails to operate - then that does not count as a business day. Even if the day is a Wednesday...

When you start a request @huckelberry1999 any time after midnight on a Monday, the first business day is Tuesday.

 

But because the Sunday and Saturday immediately preceding that are not business days, those two days are considered part of that Monday.  So when a return is started on a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, the first business day is Tuesday:

In contrast, if a return is started anytime on a Friday, the the first business day is the following Monday.

 

With exception for holidays, a request started on:

 

Fri > First business day is Mon

Sat/Sun/Mon > First business day is Tue

Tue > First business day is Wed

Wed > First business day is Thu

Thu > First business day is Fri

eBay is changing their policy on "abandoned" returns (see 2020 Spring Seller Update), and after April 1 they no longer will allow a seller to call to get a return closed ... really, I've noticed that they have already implemented this policy for the most part since just before the Spring Seller Update.

 

So, whatever nonsense you were told by customer service (they lie frequently), the return will most likely close automatically according to the rules of the new policy (which gives something like 10-35 days for a return to initiate, even though the language says "5 days").
