I sold a sealed new iPod (collectors item) and buyer wants to return because battery is dead.

I sold a sealed new U2 Edition iPod and buyer wants to return it, because the battery is dead and he doesn't want to pay for the replacement battery. I chose no returns on the listing.

Do yourself a favor and accept the item back and refund the buyer.  Your "no returns" policy means nothing when the item is not as described.

You can accept the iPod back voluntarily and get the item back, or you can refuse it kicking and screaming and still have to refund.  Notice I did not say that you would still have to accept the item back.  By refusing to accept the return, you will still have to refund the buyer, may not get the item back at all, and will get a defect on your account for your trouble.

you can refuse the return.   but, you should know that no returns does not mean no refunds

Business & Industrial, Cameras & Photo, Cell Phones & Accessories, Computers, Tablets & Networking, Electronics, Home & Garden, Musical Instruments & Gear

  • New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details

If your  buyer files an item not as described case your no return policy  does mean squat.  You should  have refunded $ to cover the  cost of a new battery + a little extra- would have been easier on you pocket book.

Re: I sold a sealed new iPod (collectors item) and buyer wants to return because battery is dead.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my iPod classics. I'd rather be without my phone than my iPod. BUT>>> neither has a battery that will hold a charge, they must be tethered to a battery pack, it's the nature of the beast and I am afraid to send them in for a battery replacement (there are no Apple stores around here). When I contacted Apple they just wanted to sell me a iPod touch which I would have to pull over and actually look at to pause and start play.

Do as the others have stated and accept the return.

Re: I sold a sealed new iPod (collectors item) and buyer wants to return because battery is dead.

I sell some sealed collectible media.  This guy sold a sealed U2 Ipod.  The value was in the item being sealed, not opened.  The buyer is playing a hinkey game here.  If you look up the prices they are 1000 plus.  You can buy a nice used one for 100 dollars.  Not saying they are going to scam you but why would you drop 1k on something and then open it.  I am going to start guaranteed returns with a few of my sealed items and pull 50 percent straight off the top if I get returns for an opened item.  There is no reason to open a U2 Ipod, ever, if it is sealed.  This guy is playing games with you or is confused with collectibles.

Re: I sold a sealed new iPod (collectors item) and buyer wants to return because battery is dead.

I concur, the value is in the unopened box.  Accept the return, and then you control the refund.  You might be nice and offer the guy a couple of dollars refund.  Here's the kicker, if he returns it opened, he is NOT returning it in the same condition that it was shipped.  That is your security.  So IF he has opened it, he has damaged it, and you will be able to reflect that in your *refund*.  Good Luck!  You may also want to call Ebay right now, and get some help with this, and inquire that they log it carefully.  It will help ensure that they will find in your favor... should the buyer call in later.

Re: I sold a sealed new iPod (collectors item) and buyer wants to return because battery is dead.

The buyer clearly opened the box.  If he hadn't he wouldn't have known that the battery was dead (if it was).  So the OP should prevail on the claim.

I totally disagree. I also sell Media. I wouldn't consider a iPod  a collectors item, it's a fan item meant to be used and worn like a Dapper Dan thing. A sealed U2 LP is a collectable, if you have another to spin.

Unless Bono signed the package of course, a U2 iPod just proclaims you a fan.

I have tons of music based fan stuff I wear. I only consider a few "collectable", a signed Dirty Diamonds CD and the t-shirt I wore to that concert. A white T with Alice on the front as a Simpson's character that got splattered with fake blood while I was in the front row. (LOL, I think Alice did this on propose, one white T shirt in a virtual sea of nearly all dark T-s). It lives in a shadow box with the CD and ticket stub.

Also as you can see by this page of sold items the U2 model has no more value than a plain NIB iPod classic.

What you just wrote is only applicable in some categories:  (a) Arts and Collectibles, (b) Software, Movies, Music & Games, (c) food.   But, in general, the customer can open a package to inspect or attempt to use the item, and this is not considered damage.  Here is eBay's Condition of Returned Goods policy.

Re: I sold a sealed new iPod (collectors item) and buyer wants to return because battery is dead.

I disagree also. The value here isn’t related to  being a sealed U2 edition but to it being an iPod classic which haven’t been manufactured in years by Apple but are vastly superior to the current iPod Touch on the market.

They are highly sought after by music aficionados who just want a solid music player that can hold GBs of music without the unnecessary WiFi/apps/bells and whistles of an iPhone.

Your buyer wanted a working ipod, they got a non working one. 🤷🏼‍♀️

EXACTLY, and that is what I told Apple too.

I have one that holds music and one I use for audiobooks. I drive over 8 hours a day between my 40 minute commute and 6+hours on the mail route. I can pause, start, back up, my classics without ever taking my eye off the road.

They came back that it didn't have wifi, I replied WHO CARES, if I want to look something up I'll use my phone or more likely wait until I get home to look on my computer.

I will occasionally search and watch for a new iPod (I do fear one of mine breaking), I do want one that does not need to be tethered to a external battery but that's just to clean u my workspace. I have mail, packages 4 days a week some sort of box holder, out going mail, parcel markers, cord for my light bar, iPod cord and battery pack, my phone, also tethered because on my route cell service is spotty and roaming kills it's battery.

Re: I sold a sealed new iPod (collectors item) and buyer wants to return because battery is dead.

You an I can disagree all day long.  The two listed at the moment are 800 and 5k respectively, you can get a refurbed one for 100 dollars.  I will still say something hinkey is going on and the value is in the sealed item.

There is 0 reason to open the package.
