I know I can not change the address BUT

A buyer just contacted me and wants it shipped to the same address on the ticket BUT has asked me to change the recipients name (It's a gift). It strikes me that as long as the address remains unchanged I should still be protected from an INR claim right?

One possibility: Print out the label with the buyer's name on it, then alter it to change the name, using Sharpie and maybe some Witeout.

Assuming that the message definitely came from the ID of your buyer, and it's only the name that he wants to have changed, fine. (i.e. As long as there are no code numbers or anything like that on the Name line) The USPS doesn't care what name is on the package as long as it is a domestic mailing, not international.

If it's a house it's OK...if it's an apartment complex I would not do it.

My mailman knows me by name...it can go to someone else in the building or a business.

Google the address to make sure it is a house and not a business or an apartment complex.

Googled the address - Yes it is a single family home.

@richard1rst: As long as you're sure it's a single family home ...

I would print the label to pdf, and then change just the name on it, and print it. Better than editing it by hand.

If you can't edit pdf's, then get a high-resolution screenshot of it and paste that into powerpoint or paint; any image editing software.

FYI, if there has been a mail-forwarding request, with a change of address for a particular person by name, then the name on the package does matter, sometimes.

My regular carrier will intercept mail that is addressed to a former occupant of my house, even though the mail forwarding request expired years ago. She recognizes the name, and doesn't deliver it. I'm fine with this (I filed the forwarding request for them, actually ... right after I shipped a box of their old mail to their new address). If she's on her day off, then the mail might end up being delivered by the substitute.

That is true, and also for Restricted Delivery Signature Confirmation, where only the addressee can sign for it.

It is goes to the address on file on ebay and the zip code the tracking will show DELIVERED to the correct address and zip code. If INR is filed no win for the customer.

I would NOT change the name on the actual shipping label if generated on Ebay. That would be a slight risk if you ask me.

Better yet, Have to customer add another verified shipping address on their ebay account with the family members name on it for 100 percent accuracy and protection.

Richard, I always do everything on here textbook ebay perfect just in case especially if it is a higher value item. If this were me I would ask the buyer to add another verified shipping address onto their account and ask them to repurchase the item with the correct name. That’s a real pain I know but I never do anything even slightly off the books on here.

But in a chargeback situation maybe this person could come back and say This item was shipped to another person not the holder of the credit card. IDK. Strange things can happen at times.

Thanks to all and sundry who answered and the attendant suggestions. It is an electric oil warmer valued at $40.00 including shipping. Strikes me as not high on a scammers list.
