I Forgot to include little code on street line of address for authenticator/do they hav buyer addrss

I've been buying and selling on ebay for 22 years & recently decided to start selling some of my Yeezy sneaker collection.  I hadn't sold any sneakers since the new authentication process was implemented. Today I sold 3 pair.  Since I've ALWAYS ended up getting screwed on shipping costs...I just charged a flat $20 fee(which still wasn't enuff 😩). So I did not print a shipping slip. I wrote down the address where it said "Shipping Address" & took them to UPS

A few hours after shipping I was wondering how the hell the package is diverted along the way.

I then realized I didn't include the little code on the street line of the address.  It's apparently for the authentication/authenticator.

Is this going to mess up the process? The agent I talked to via messages dosent seem to think so. But I'm not so sure.  There is even a reminder  under the address to make sure to copy everything that is included on the street line

To be 100% honest I've been pretty confused since I shipped.  First I was wondering who's address I actually sent packages to?  Buyer or authenticator?  Thanks to this section I learned 2 went to Astoria NY(at first I thought buyer was using separate handles for the same address) the other to Las Vegas.

Maybe I'm slow, but I wish when they listed the "shipping address", it was more specific as to whether or not that is the buyers address? Or the authenticator's?

So am I to assume that the authenticators will have the buyers correct address to forward the package on to them after authentication?

🙏🏻

the person you talked to was blowing smoke

the address is not complete. this is your fault

the authenticator is not going to know who the sneakers are going to

maybe they will get returned and you will realize you blew $20 by putting down an incomplete address

when you use ebay shipping this is never a problem

the problem is that you failed to follow the directions that ebay has given you

@benzo1818,

The authenticators will know the buyer's address, but without the code on the label, they won't have any way to identify what item to send to the buyer.

Did you print a packing slip with the item number,  your seller ID and the buyer's ID on it? If you included a packing slip, then it's possible that they may be able to look it up by the item number, and figure it out, but that's not the standard process.

If you have already shipped the packages, then you should probably try to recall the packages and get the shipper to return them back to you so you can put the code on the label, then send them again.

It's not going to work out. Your best chance to salvage this situation is to recall the packages and send them again with correct labels.

Otherwise you may or may not get them back from the authenticators, and if you do, it will be really late when you resend them. Or cancel the transactions.

after talking to ebay on the phone person to person they told me that when the sneakers arrived to to authentication facility...they'd be returned to me...after hearing that & the above answer I pretty much figured that was what would happen. So i contacted the buyers & told them my mistake & that delivery would be longer than it should be due to my stupid error.  I offered a refund as well. To which all 3 declined. They were all very cool about it

However what actually ended up happening is the sneakers were AUTHENTICATED, SHIPPED & DELIVERED yesterday(3/30/22 actually a day or 2 early)

Obviously I would not recommend making your own labels the old school way...just print the ebay generated shipping labels & transaction slip & avoid this.  I've learned my lesson

I sold 14 more pair of Yeezy's, printed the shipping info & shipped correctly after these first 3 blunders...so I think what may have helped them figure out where they needed to go? Maybe they logged in to my account & could trace it there? Whatever they did I'm just relieved it worked out

I will say this...For someone like me that was used to the older way ebay selling worked...there is a new learning curve now that ebay has the authentication model & no longer uses paypal.  Luckily for me it has worked out...

Then there's opting out of international sales🥴...that's another can of 🪱

Wow~I'm impressed to read that you got to talk to a real person from Ebay!  I found this feed after a panic attack when I saw my Chanel bag heading to Las Vegas and the seller said there was nothing he could do about it. He said to call Ebay.  He DID sent me info on the pre-printed Ebay lable he had used.  My name was on the lable,  along with codes, an Ebay reference number, and the Vegas address (which scared me!). Unfortunately, the seller couldn't tell me (or didn't know) that this was the new Ebay process for selling expensive bags. He wrote that he didn't know why it was going to Vegas and told me to stop emailing him (!).  Y'all know what his feedback is gonna be.....

If you printed the shipping label through eBay wouldn't it have shown all the correct information, including the reference number?

I read the OP's post that they hand wrote the shipping label, did not print one off the shipping page.

there is a link in the "contact us" area that eventually asks you if you would like ebay to call you back(both times it said they'd call within "6 minutes" & both times they did get back to me within that time...I don't know if that's a standard amount of time? or I got lucky? or it depends on what time & day you call?)

i think you're fine...if you printed the shipping label from ebay.  In my case I hand wrote the 1st two tags w/o the code...but they actually got to the buyer(i was initially told that would happen...then the 2nd time i talked to ebay they said authenticator would  need to return them to me & i'd need to reship...which made sense.  However somehow they figured it out & the sneakers got to all 3 buyers...pretty quickly too)

-The authenticators are in Vegas & New York-& From your printed label they should know where to ship after authentication

Now that i've gotten used to the process(the shipping part AND the part where ebay sends $$ to your bank rather than Paypal). I have sold about 18 more pairs after i made the initial mistake. The process is pretty seemless & easy.  The key(for me)has been to just do EVERYTHING through the ebay listing...not like I used to do...like writing out my own shipping labels, etc

This just happened to me. I have sold several high value items on eBay. Not once have they had to go through the 'Authenticator Process.'

Yesterday, I shipped an Omega watch. I saw the 'eBay code' in the address, but completely disregarded it thinking, "I have never seen the buyer put their "eBay username" in their shipping address. I will omit that from the shipping address so that UPS does not get confused." Well, I guess my assumption was wrong. I am hopeful that whatever address I sent the watch to (I am guessing that it is the address of the Authenticator??), they will be able to figure it out based on the address and name on the shipping label, plus the tracking number linked to the sale.

I am disappointed that eBay makes this step in their Authentication Process so unclear to experienced sellers, like myself and the individual who started this thread. My buyer expressed the need to receive their purchase by a specific date. I promised my buyer that they would, and I even sent them the tracking number and estimated date of arrival. Now, because it has to go through an Authenticator, I am not sure they will get it in time.

As sellers on this platform, our relationships with our buyers are the most important part of the selling process. The trust that we gain from buyers through repeated successful transactions, and our communications with buyers, are what build this trust. In my opinion, eBay has put these seller / buyer relationships at risk by integrating this "authenticator middle man" into the relationship. The success and sustainability of eBay's platform was built on these relationships between seller and buyer.  What's the point of building rapport with our buyers if they only rely on eBay's authentication decision? And who ARE these authenticators?

I am so disappointed.

I am the OP of this post ...eBay got my shipment to the buyer with out it being an issue.  Granted what you are selling has a much higher value but i have a feeling a lot of sellers get confused by the "authentication process"(IE-the shipment goes there...they pull the slip & they ship it on...at least that's what confused me...I thought the shipping address I received was the buyers NOT the authentication hub).  I contacted the buyer to tell them there may be a delay(I was told eBay would need to send it back to me & I would need to resend it correctly w/the slip that had the buyers "code")however eBay seemed to figure it out, I never heard anything from them(besides maybe an acknowledgement that i sent ebay a help form)& eBay sent it to the correct buyer w/o any delay

I hope yours works out like mine did.  I think the worst case scenario would be they send it back to you & you would need to resend it. But hopefully it just continues on to the buyer
