A buyer bought a doll she claims was not as described. She wanted me to give her a partial refund. I took her offer far below my BIN. I told her to return it and I will send her a return label. Fortunately or Unfortunately, I am not sure how to do this as we have had few returns.

@mustardjowrote:No she hasn't gone through ebay and opened a case. She just sent a message to me. I thought that if a buyer goes through ebay for a SNAD then it will count as a defect against you.
It's only a defect if you refund without an electronic paper trail (like a refund without a return request or a seller initiated cancellation without the buyer asking for it)
If you follow the timelines given (to the return request and issue the refund when you get it back), you'll be fine.
If you fail to follow the timelines and eBay is asked to step in, that's when you're in trouble - Unresolved defect.

Doing a return outside of ebay can lead to more problems than intended if the buyer isn't of the honest sorts. In any case, this probably is not your buyers first rodeo. The partial refund scam scenario always plays out the same way. You denied the request, next will come the SNAD.

Has the buyer opened a return request yet? Was her original contact just a regular message?
If she has not opened a return, tell her she needs to do that. That way you can formally respond with "return for refund" and a label will be issues (which will be charged to your account)
You can't really do this without eBay getting involved. If you issue a refund with a return request recorded, you can end up with a defect on your seller standing. You don't get a selling FVF refund automatically either. Also, if you send her a label and she doesn't use it, you lose that money. Through the eBay return process, you only get charged for the label if she uses it.

Buy a label thru paypal. Use same measurements as what was on the original label. Reverse the sent to and send from addresses. Save label on your PC then in paypal find the transaction for this buyers purchase and copy their email address then email them the saved copy of the return label you just bought.
Keep a check on the tracking of this return label and after however many days you want If it has not been used then request a refund on the label.

you can first just ask her to return it without offering to pay for return shipping or send her a return label.
if she asks, then send her a return label via Ebay, but she would have to go thru Ebay t o ask for a return in order for you to do so.
Going outside eBAY to give her a return label is possible by using Paypal/shipnow,but not a good idea as it is no proof she has returned the item

I resent being forced to give a partial refund when the item was as described. I also took their offer which was $25 less than BIN.

As long as you handle the return without having to get Ebay involved, it doesn't affect your account.
As some others has posted, have them open a case through Ebay.

Yes, the buyer did open a return request through ebay and I accepted it so it won't count as a defect against me.
