How to default block PO Box shipping from Excluded Locations in new listings

I'm now sure I asked that correctly.

I'm looking how to default block PO Box shipping so I don't have to keep going in and check marking that block in Excluded Locations when I do a new listing. eBay changed the listing page and I had that all blocked but now it's all unblocked. And I tried doing a search.

I've been gone all summer but now I'm back posting sales.

And before we jump into WELL WHY WOULDN'T YOU SHIP TO A PO BOX? just know that I am a seller that does not ship outside the 48 states. I happily give those outside 48 state border sales and PO Box sales to you other ebay sellers. Happily. 🙂 I will shovel the money to you. I am doing just fine and dandy with the 48 states. Thanks 🙂

Re: How to default block PO Box shipping from Excluded Locations in new listings

Last town I worked in 90% of the population had PO boxes.

Adjacent Zip, 100% PO boxes.

First stop in the other direction about 70% PO box.

Next stop 100% PO box.

Hopefully all those folks are up on the USPS "street addressing to PO box #"  program.

Back in the day, policy was, if you know where it goes (who it goes to), deliver it. Didn't matter how it was addressed. Jane Doe mail/package went to Jane Doe.

Now per instruction, from I don't know where,  policy is, at least in my Zip Code, don't waste any time figuring anything out. If it isn't addressed right, send it back.

Doesn't look like I'd make much in those four towns now does it? 🙂

Luckily most of what I sell is available from other sellers and like I said...I happily give those sales to them.

Although one time I had some computer server cabinets on ebay and I was the ONLY seller with a specific model of a popular manufacturer and I had that market cornered on ebay. Those things sold like hot cakes. I could have moved probably hundreds more than the 20-30 I had. That wasn't bad for a one person operation. And yes. Limited my sales to 48 states. Street address. Every. Single. One. Not one issue.

Like you said...what works for some doesn't work for others. You nailed that one right.

Thanks for the input!

Re: How to default block PO Box shipping from Excluded Locations in new listings

I don't want anyone to know where I live.  When I started on ebay ,  every day  I was selling items that cost over a 100 dollars.   I also have a family and nothing is safer than a po box.  Are you comfortable with your buyers knowing where you live.    And this was my mentality back in 1998 when I first started.  Imagine today with all of the nuts out there.

I also know someone that was robbed shortly after he started selling on ebay back in 1998.  He sold expensive Corgi and Matchbox items and his entire garage was wiped out by someone that knew what he sold and where he lived.

You make a very good point here. I cannot argue with this one bit. All of us on ebay have our own selling habits that work. Like this whole thread pointed out...my blocked PO Boxes don't make any sense to alot of sellers...including you. Or blocking Canada...or Hawaii...or Alaska...or...Me...I find hiding behind a PO Box a bit paranoid (disclaimer...I am NOT calling you paranoid) but who am I to judge? I absolutely respect that decision. I think with the Internet and a bit of sleuthing, ANYONE can be found. Easily. I've done it. And sometimes for the low cost of $29.95 or $39.95...and no...it was not stalking...it was something else entirely.

And like I pointed out...my ebay bizz is registered with the state of South Dakota. I'm pretty easy to find already.

Good points though @ms.rodriguez*

So your friend didn't know that motor vehicle sales on eBay are non-binding and that either party can simply walk away from the deal, no harm, no foul?  Seems like he could have saved himself a trip if he had been aware of the way motor vehicle sales actually work on eBay.  Oh, well -- maybe he had fun making a fool out of himself at a different location.

I don't give a rat's ass if you sell to P.O. Boxes or not.  But saying people are hiding behind a p.o. box and are paranoid is ignorant and stupid.  I live in a very remote part of Colorado.  Over 60 miles to the nearest WalMart.  The post office does not deliver to my address.  UPS and FedEx do, but not USPS.  So my only alternative is to have a P.O. Box and have things delivered there.  Not hiding, not paranoid.  No alternative.  So painting everyone with a broad brush and calling them paranoid and hiding does not reflect well on you.

LOL. You needed to know this guy. He was a character. He was actually a good guy. He just expected everyone to be held to their word.

But yeah....you are correct....

Calm down there....

I am not calling your situation paranoid.

Nor am I calling EVERYONE paranoid with a wide and broad brush. I cannot make that call. You have no idea the paranoid stuff I deal with daily after I came back from Afghanistan. I cannot drive over roadkill anymore...squirrels...cats...raccoons...nope. Could be an IED. Boxes along the road...give them a wide birth. You want to call anyone paranoid. I'm the text book example.

I completely understand you needing a PO Box. Completely. No issues here.

I have enough issues without you creating more for me.

Thanks for your feedback though.

It was entertaining reading. That's for sure.
