How does buyer avoid flat rate shipping charges?

I sold a fishing reel part on a listing which shipping is $2.70 for each part. the buyer bought two parts yet only paid $1 shipping?

How is this so?  I charge 2.70 because shipping a 1 ounce package costs more than the actual  item. The buyer should have paid $5.40

When I look at your sold listings in search, there are a few of them that show $1 shipping but when I click on the listing itself, the cost changes.  Do you perhaps have local pick up listed with a $1 charge and it is defaulting to that or the buyer is  choosing that when they pay?

I THINK I know what the problem is.

If your handling charge is fifty cents  it was only showing the handling charge instead of the shipping charge when I was viewing the completed listings that had a fifty cents shipping charge.  If they bought 2 they paid $1.  I believe it was an eBay glitch.

And it's STILL messing up!

On your sold list I  see shipping of $0.50, $4.00, $10.00 and one calculated shipping charge of $28.30 as you scroll down the list.

As an example,

Shimano Curado K Series Replacement Spool

Pre-Owned

  • $39.99
  • Best offer accepted
  • +$0.50 shipping

Free Returns

If you click on it the shipping changes from fifty cents to $3.20 (to my zip code)

Shimano Curado K Series Replacement Spool

Used
Sold for:
US $39.99

Shipping:
$3.20 Economy Shipping See details

Item location:
Louisville, Kentucky, United States
Ships to:

So then I clicked on the details and changed the zip code to a Louisville zip code to see what shipping  you would be seeing, and it says FREE shipping.

Shimano Curado K Series Replacement Spool
Condition:

Sold for:
US $39.99

So eBay information showed FREE shipping, Fifty Cents Shipping, and $3.20 shipping for the same item!!!!!!!!!!!!  I would complain to eBay and tell them they should give you a $10 coupon for their glitch!

Just adding to what fab_finds4u wrote, are you using a domestic shipping rate table?    I notice that the shipping changes depending on the zip code that I enter, so I'm guessing that you are.

If so, then your buyer's location is likely not covered in the domestic shipping rate table, and the shipping charge may be defaulting to whatever is in the regular shipping area of your listing.

(Related to this, if a seller uses the GSP with a domestic shipping table, then the shipping cost is not to "Kentucky" where the GSP is located, but rather whatever is listed in the regular shipping area of the listing.)
