How do you cancel a transaction completely?

Hello,

I recently purchased something for 20 dollars. I decided to change my mind a day later, and I contacted the seller. They said they could refund, to which I said yes, but they haven't responded, to which I think they might've just ignored it. How do you ask  eBay to completely refund?

Thanks, Quinn

Ebay is not going to 'completely refund' you.Be aware that the refund can take up to three business(thats monday thru friday) days to show up in your PP acct, and if you paid by cc, it can take up to one billing cycle to show up.If you do receive the widget, since this is a remorse return, you are not eligible for the money back guarantee..you can always resell it.

If the seller didn’t cancel the transaction, you just have to wait for the item to arrive. If it doesn’t arrive by the latest delivery estimate, file an item not received case. If it does arrive, and the seller accepts returns, you can return the item at your expense. Or you can keep it. It’s not very nice to buy something and then change your mind the next day. Keep in mind, the seller was charged fees as soon as you bought the item and some of those fees are not refundable. Only a seller can cancel the transaction and they aren’t required to do so, so you need to make sure you really want the item before you buy it.

For future reference, while you can request a cancellation the seller does not have to comply with your request.  The time to decide if you want to purchase something is before placing the order, not by changing your mind later.

If the seller does ignore your request to cancel the transaction, you will have to file a remorse return after you receive the item if the seller doesn't have a no returns policy.

By the way, you will be required to pay the return shipping and the seller may only have to refund the item price, I believe.

If you don't receive the item, you are covered by the Money Back Guarantee. I suggest you familiarize yourself with it.

In general, it is very poor form to "change your mind" about a purchase. Most eBay sellers are not big retailers with big fulfillment staffs and sophisticated record keeping, so processing cancellations is a hassle. Best not to buy unless you're sure.

The problem is that you make a legal contract with the seller when you purchase; the only legal recourse that you have under federal consumer law is to ask for a refund in the event that #1. the item was delivered extremely late from the estimated time of delivery, say a month; #2. The order when it arrived was incomplete, defective, or the wrong item; or #3. the seller failed to deliver the order at all. Anything else is a breach of contract and the seller has the right to sue the buyer for damages, if they choose to do so, including any loss of income.
