How do I refund minus my original shipping cost

Hi, I’ve gone through a few threads but couldn’t find the answer to my particular questions... so I shipped a 200$ item to Swedes with a 55$ shipping fee. The item arrived but my buyer never picked it up so the item got sent back to me without ever being in his hands. It was the buyers fault and he has luckily and morally agreed to take a refund minus the shipping cost but I can’t seem to find a way to do that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Refund them through Paypal.

The problem is they opened a “did not receive item” problem through eBay so I’m afraid if I send them the money through PayPal, eBay won’t know that and they will debit  my account the full price plus shipping on top of the money I already sent the buyer through PayPal

Ask them to close the dispute. If they're willing to eat the shipping cost, they sound reasonable enough to understand your dilemma. If not, try partially refunding their original payment through Paypal. Ebay can't refund their original Paypal payment if it's already been refunded, even partially.

I wasn't suggesting send them a separate Paypal payment;  I've done that before and when ebay subsequently refunded the customers payment I notified them of the separate Paypal payment I made to the customer for the refund, ebay actually looked into it and refunded the refund back to me. I'm not suggesting that would be the result in every case, obviously.

As the other poster said, ask the buyer to close the dispute.  Once it's closed go to the paypal transaction for the item and do a partial refund via paypal.
