How can I send an invoice for shipping to resend a refused package?

Original post: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Returns/Package-returned-as-unclaimed-How-much-to-refund/m-p/32942120#...

Buyer wants refused item reshipped.  How can I send an invoice for the $9.65 shipping?  Will ebay take 12.9% plus 30¢ ?  Is it within ebay rules to send an invoice through PayPal?  I'm thinking not.

As of this time there is no way to do such through eBay< you will have to use alternate methods.

You can send an invoice through Paypal.  You should be allowed to exchange email addresses since you are currently in a transaction.

@anasazirose You cannot just purchase a shipping label on eBay. What you can do is send an invoice to the buyer via PayPal, or just have them send you the money via PP.

Once you get that, go to pirateship.com and there you can purchase your own shipping label. Some extra steps but you can do it this way. Ship it a second time and maybe you will get a repeat buyer out of this. Best of luck to you....

I'm not shipping at my cost.  If the buyer doesn't want to pay the shipping, I'll refund the purchase price.

Just idle curiosity:  If the buyer refused it once, how do you know it won't be refused again?

I think you misunderstood her.

Send thru PayPal a Invoice for the shipping cost.  Once you have the money from PayPal then purchase the shipping label.  I do not think you could purchase the shipping thru eBay again, you could try.  But if not you will have to purchase it from somewhere else.

They may be able to purchase another shipping label through ebay but it would not be a good idea to do so as it would reset the shipping date on that transaction.   That might not matter since the buyer isn't eligible for the mbg if they refused the parcel but if it were me, I would probably use Paypal or Pirateship.

I would send the buyer a PayPal invoice or refund the buyer for the returned item & have them place a new order.

Good luck!

Re: How can I send an invoice for shipping to resend a refused package?

I just received a notice from Pirateship .

USPS just made Pirate Ship's Priority Mail rates UP TO $1.02 CHEAPER than normal Commercial Pricing discounts. That's up to 9% more per shipment

I am going to go check it out.

I just checked it out, it is a little cheaper than eBay for the Flat Rates

Small FR 8.10               eBay 8.25

Medium FR 14.00      eBay 14.25

Large FR 18.95            eBay 19.20

Re: How can I send an invoice for shipping to resend a refused package?

I don't.  Buyer asked me to resend... responded immediately after I messaged that it was returned refused.  I asked for email to send PayPal invoice, and now have no response.  I'll probably just end up refunding purchase price if I haven't heard from buyer by Monday.

Re: How can I send an invoice for shipping to resend a refused package?

This is the standard advice I give in a RTS situation:

You have a few options. You should decide which route you'll be taking and communicate with the buyer, but wait until the item is returned (and delivered) to you before you take any of the following actions.

  • You can refund the buyer the item cost minus original shipping and minus your eBay fees which won't be credited (until 5/23) on a partial refund. Go to your orders page, find the transaction and select "send refund." On the next page enter the amount. After that, relist the item and tell the buyer to repurchase it with the correct name/address.

  • Have the buyer sort out their address issue then pay for re-shipping. Send them an invoice through PayPal or give them your PayPal e-mail. This is post-sale so it's OK to exchange e-mail addresses. It's also OK to ship to a different address because it's technically not tied to the original transaction. You would not purchase the shipping label through eBay or upload tracking to the transaction. You would purchase it from an alternate site like pirateship.com or paypal.com/shipnow and you can send the buyer the new tracking # through e-mail or eBay messages.

  • A different way to accomplish buyer payment for re-shipping is to create an eBay listing for the shipping cost (bumping it up to factor in eBay fees) and having the buyer purchase it, entering their correct address at checkout. You could purchase a shipping label through eBay for that transaction.

  • You can cancel the transaction "problem with address" which will trigger a full refund to the buyer and your FVF would be credited.

  • You can do nothing. The buyer's MBG protection is voided when there's a package delivery attempt. I don't recommend this because even though you'll win an INR (item not received) claim on eBay, there's nothing stopping that buyer from going to their credit card to file a dispute which would grant them a full refund from your account. I also think that handling it before it gets to this stage with a partial refund is the "right" thing to do if you're not going to make reshipping arrangements.
