How big of a box can I put in the FedEx Express Drop Box, and if bigger do I just leave it there?

I remember there being a crazily overloaded drop off bin for FedEx at my college with packages stacked up on top of each other just out in the open. Seems kind of unsafe. What is the largest volume box I can drop in the FedEx Express Drop Box? Can I just leave a box that's bigger, and expect them to pick it up? Should I just wait until the guy comes by, and give it to him then?

My "local" FedEx Center is 45 minutes from me ... but ...

There is a FedEx pick up Center up the block from me ... it is the local Husqvarna dealer, not a FedEx Center. If you have a ground package, you can just leave it there (FedEx comes everyday at 2 PM), but if it is an Express package, they need to call for pickup and it may not get out until the next day.

There's another a few blocks away ... it's a Storage center.

Google FedEx Drop centers for your nearest one.

Wait, what? What is the difference between a "pick up center" and a "center"? I can't find any "pick up center[s]" in my area. I don't think. So, wait, are you saying that I can piggy back off another company's pick up spot?

Some local businesses have an agreement with FedEx where they pick up every day.

Not all of them are on that list (the Husqvarna dealer isn't) ... just look for FedEx Drop Off signs in your local business place's windows 🙂

Also, it's none of my business, but I have to say: I think your quote could be better. It's my understanding that a light, technically, can't shine after its fuse has blown out.

Yeah, I checked that, and that's how I located the Express Drop Box at the court house.

Like I said up there ... not all locations are listed online.

Next time you are out and about ... keep your eye out for the purple FedEx signs in your local business' windows.

Places like lawnmower dealers, self-storage places, etc.

OP, Walgreens is a FedEx drop off in my area. I think they are nationwide. Is there a Walgreens near you?

I'm going to take the shining fuseless light bulb guy's advice and drive around town. You know how there's that third party USPS mailbox locator. Maybe there is a third party FedEx business drop spot locator.

Well if you have a Walgreens check there first. Their hours are phenomenal and they are open 7 days a week. It's a Godsend for me when shipping FedEx.

(Just for reference ... Not a Guy LOL)

Also try Kinkos and Office Depot ... and like someone else said ... Walgreens (I just looked at my locator on the FeEx site ... it looks like ALL of the local Walgreens are taking FedEx Drop offs now)

I'm just wondering now, though, since it's just sitting in the Express Drop Box now until Monday, and it's expected to be returned to sender, then once I get it back (if they don't just take it) will I be able to drop it back off? I mean, is a return to sender package reusable?

Walgreens and FedEx are currently working on pick up at all 8000 Walgreens in the nation and it is supposed to be implemented by fall 2018. To top it off my Walgreens does an acceptance scan while I watch and ask if I want an email notification of acceptance.

Re: How big of a box can I put in the FedEx Express Drop Box, and if bigger do I just leave it there

Express dropboxes are for Express shipments and are picked up by Express drivers, whereas Ground shipments are a separate network with separate drivers and trucks. They are completely separate companies under the FedEx corporate umbrella just as FedEx Freight is. UPS is an "all-in-one" company with single brown trucks and drivers (except for freight).

See here: http://www.fedex.com/us/dropbox/

I drop my FedEx stuff off at a FedEx/Kinkos here in Sacramento (it's a fairly large FedEx Office location). Express drivers show up early in the afternoon to grab the Express stuff, and a Ground driver shows up at 6pm for the Ground stuff. I'm not sure, but I think the Express stuff may head straight over to a facility at the airport, while the Ground stuff goes to the FedEx facility in South Sac. If so, that is a huge reason why they don't want ground pkgs in with the Express - they have to make sure they get pulled and trucked back over to the ground facility.

Around here, FedEx Express drivers will not take a ground shipment if you try to give it to them, and if pickups are scheduled, a ground driver comes for the ground and an express driver for the express.

Stores like Walgreens, (and CVS years ago when I checked) worked out deals to provide services to us (potential customers) for USPS, FedEx, and UPS dropoffs.

Having said all that, I don't think your package will be returned to you (it would cost FedEx more to send a driver to you to return it than it will cost them to figure out what to do with it.).

They may however stick you with some sort of a surcharge, but not sure what surcharge as there really isn't anything applicable in the fee structure for that except maybe a Pickup surcharge (Additional handling, or extra services surcharges are the only others, but not really applicable).

Likely, all that may happen is that the package will be delayed because they will have to get it into the ground network from the express network.

As I mentioned before, FedEx in smaller towns or different parts of the country may handle things differently and ad-hoc. Could be that in smaller towns, FedEx has a single express/ground driver/truck due to low volume and there is enough work between the two types to keep him busy. If so, not a problem.

If you are really worried, call FedEx and ask, but I think it will be fine.

I managed to find a cafe that has a window in view of the drop box, so I'm going to just stake out and keep an eye out for the FedEx truck and ask directly. It'll be perfectly boring.
