I have an item sent to a buyer and the tracking is saying on February 10th because of an insufficient address it was returned to the sender. I still have not received the returned item. I looked on the shipping software and it showed it had the correct address. Does anyone know how long it takes for an item to get returned to the sender? The buyer just opened a request on it.

You have 3 days to respond to the case, so don't count on having the item back by then. Watch the clock and refund before the buyer asks eBay to step in. You can keep tabs on the package through the carrier's tracking, but with the storms hitting large parts of the country, it may take a while to get back to you.

This buyer lives in the same state as I do, maybe within a hundred to fifty miles. As far as I know returns take longer then sending an item. I'm just trying to figure out how long.

For priority mail in same or a close state it was generally a few days. If 1st class it could be longer. I think it should be 4-7 days or less.

USPS issues could add a few days or more if far from your state.... for anyone else with a problem wondering. Its hard to know a time frame for USPS with close to certainty since there have been so many issues in the past year.

Don't wait to receive the returned item @mozartbach1971 and stop talking to the buyer. Just upload the tracking number then ahead of the 3 business day deadline, contact eBay to swoop in.

eBay considers all delivery problems like Returned to sender, Address unknown, No such number, No tice left, etc. to be the same as Delivered.

eBay will close the case without a refund, and your buyer cannot leave feedback/already left will be removed. Only after the item returns, you can decide whether to refund, and whether to deduct your fees and shipping.

I'm not sure this will work in my case, when I put in the tracking number it mentions insufficient address however, it does not have the delivered message that your number has.

I agree, do what mama posted.

As long as you used the address that the buyer provided you should prevail.

This is not an uncommon issue. I have had more than one person say they don't put their lot number on their address because they don't want people to know they live in a trailer park. But there is a chance that it could be returned and or delivered and then they claim because of the "wrong" address they get a refund. When I get these I ALWAYS rubber stamp them with "please provide your correspondent with your correct and complete address" This way they know that I have an eye on them, don't know if it helps or not but I feel that I should at least try to.

I had that same problem with a package I mailed to a buyer who actually lives within 100 miles from me and it took nearly two weeks for me to get it back. My understanding that if the buyer filed an INR this is not your fault since you shipped it to the confirmed address. Usually it would show out for delivery followed by Undeliverable due to insufficient address. Therefore, after you upload the tracking number to the claim it should close in the seller's favor because the buyer didn't provide a correct address. You should only have to refund the item price when the package is returned back to you. If the buyer still wants it they will need to repurchase with the correct address. It becomes a problem for you if the shipping is free.

Its very annoying when a buyer doesn't know his or her address, then get on eBay and buy something.

This is actually what I see, the tracking is showing out for delivery and then it says insufficient address item returned to sender. I did upload the tracking number on the Ebay request. Do I just wait for Ebay to look at it?

So there you have it! What you are seeing in the tracking is in eBay speak the equal to "delivered!" Are you convinced yet?

Do you wait for eBay to look at it? Huh? HECK NO!!!!! Why would you "wait" for someone to do something for you? Especially when it is in your power to do something that helps! GET ON THE PHONE OR SOCIAL MEDIA RIGHT AWAY AND GET EBAY TO ACT IN YOUR FAVOR! You wait, some "genius" CS rep might "help out" the buyer and refund them from your funds and then the buyer goes and gets the package. You want to suffer a Maximum Loss??? Lose the item AND the money?

You can refund the buyer IF & only when the package is back in your hands.

Something I noticed when I put in the tracking number is the out for delivery zip code matches the Paypal address, however on the insufficient address return to sender part it has a different zip code. Will Ebay accept this?

My city has several zip codes with only the first three numbers the same. However, my delivery zip code is different from the post office zip code as it's on the other side of town. My zip code is ###35, but the post office zip code that will ship the returned package is ###30.

I looked at the out for delivery zip code and it just differs by one digit from the returned to sender zip code. Different city names are given on both zip codes. Should I assume this is OK?
