Help re: "Standard Envelope"

I’m hoping someone might help me with a shipping question

regarding the “Standard Envelope”.  It's my understanding that it's only

available to items sold in these few categories:

Trading Cards, Postcards, Stamps, and Currency and Coins.

If this is true, I’m wondering why it’s not available to others?

(I can't find ANYthing in eBay's help. I actually learned about it from the

eCommerceBytes Newsletter!)

HERE IS MY DILEMMA...

I have doll jewelry listed (and TONS more I'd like to list),

however these are in the Dolls & Bears (doll accessories) category.

        Some "Modern" and some "Vintage/Antique".

So the problem is… the cost of a single necklace is only around $5-$7.

First Class Pkg costs $3.50-$4 minimum, which I thought was the only option

because...  Doesn't eBay REQUIRE tracking?

The "Standard Envelope" apparently would cost only 53 cents!!!

(according to eCommerceBytes). AND I believe a piece of jewelry

meets the requirements for 1st class (in that it does not exceed the weight

 limits)

These necklaces have the potential to sell like hotcakes! ...if the cost to ship

wasn't so high. AND it would be so easy to just pop ‘em in a regular envelope!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I thank you in advance!

Re: Help re: "Standard Envelope"

Up to 4 oz commercial rate is $3.01 to $3.49

From experience moms buying Barbie things or second hand toys aren't usually scamming opportunists, and most people are honest. I would send Barbie accessories costing only $5-$7  in a padded envelope with stamps and see how it goes.

On the other hand I would not send any small lightweight electronic item costing the same without tracking.

eBy does not require tracking.

Here's the Help page about the standard envelopes.

@anjie234

Why would you want to ship jewelry in a regular envelope, even if it just toys?

Have a great day.

Re: Help re: "Standard Envelope"

I explained why.

Who wants to pay $4 to ship a $5-$7 item?!?!?

And these aren't actually "toys"...  They're vintage Kate Webster

gold & gold-plated with Swarovski crystals.

Re: Help re: "Standard Envelope"

Thank-you so much!

WE HAVE A WINNER!  Yay!

Yes, I think I'm going to try your suggestion.

I even have little padded envelopes (about the size of a letter),

which I didn't know could be sent 1st Class.

...and now that I know tracking isn't "required"!

(sheeesh! just when I think I got this!

I feel like I should have known these things.)

Anyway, thanks again!

Re: Help re: "Standard Envelope"

I guess I thought tracking is required because in Seller Performance,

a seller is rated on  Tracking being "uploaded on time and validated".

So if you didn't do that, you'd take a hit to your seller performance level.  Yes/No?
