Good Morning,
I have been asking for eBay to include a "Rigid Mailer" add-on to the eBay Standard Envelope Option. USPS charges an additional .46 cents for rigid mailers.
All Non-Sport and Sport Card sellers that mail cards in a top loader which is made of hard plastic, triggers most cards to be "Non-Machinable" which adds .46 cents to the cost of the mail.
I have to add postage at the USPS each time for my cards to ensure there is not delay, or that there is no added cost to the buyer on their end. This has happened.
The bottom line, I need eBay to look at adding "a button, or box to click in" that will add .46 cents additional postage to 1 oz , 2 oz, and 3 oz mailers.
For reference, I have been doing this for over a year and a half and I have made previous suggestions to eBay to do this for the sellers.
Thank you,
Cole

If the envelope is rigid, then there won't be any tracking. eSE tracking happens automatically as the envelopes go through the sorting machines and are photographed. That's why they're cheaper. Rigid envelopes can't go through the machines, so they won't get photographed and won't get tracked.
So no, this won't be an option. The whole point of eSE is to offer a less expensive option with tracking.
If you don't want the tracking, then don't bother with eSE. Just use stamps. It's cheaper.

The reason eBay is able to provide tracking on ESE is specifically because they ARE machinable. The tracking uses the Intelligent Mail Barcode that gets put on letter mail to facilitate high speed sorting. The IMB is read by the sorting machines along it's route and can NOT be scanned any other way.
There is currently no way to get tracking on a non-machinable letter.
Smart sellers will use semi rigid sleeves that provide equal protection, qualify for ESE, don't shatter in the sorting machine and don't frustrate customers that have to wildly shake their card out of a top loader.

Why isn't the USPS surcharge fee added in to label cost?

That must be a joke.
So. Answered here.

I have no problems using a top loader when mailing cards in either 4"x6" or 4"x9" envelopes. Make sure the top loader is not centered but more to one side of the envelope, usually the side where the return address is located. I use a soft sleeve, top loader and team bag with no problem. More expensive cards under $20, I use a 5"x7" Armalope envelope with the same results. It was rough at the beginning mailing cards using ESE eBay standard envelopes but many sellers here gave good advice and that's how I learned.
