I was just charged over $ 1,000 by UPS for a print that should have cost about $ 10. I mailed an identical sized print, and it was calculated correctly at about $ 10. Ebay filed a shipping dispute twice with UPS, and both times UPS claimed that they were correct. They claimed that the print measured 58" by 49" by 5", which was totally incorrect. The facility where I take my UPS packages wouldn't even accept such a large item. The print was packed inside 2 pieces of cardboard, then inside a larger manila envelope. Ebay took this $ 1,000 + charge directly out of my checking account. Since Ebay is the "shipper of record", I have been unable to get anywhere with UPS over the phone. Does anyone have any advice as to how best fight this gross mistake by UPS, and Ebay's failed attempt to make this right. I can't even pay my mortgage this month as a result. PLEASE, HELP !!

Have Ebay call you. Politely tell the "gate Keeper" (first person you speak to) to please transfer you to someone in "shipping". Then tell them you would like proof that what UPS says is correct. They cannot tell you so proceed to tell them that unless they have proof you want a refund. Do NOT let them tell you they will file a dispute. That is a complete waste of time. You demand Ebay refund you. Ebay is fully aware of this racket that both UPS and Fedex have going on and are allowing it. They will be held criminally responsible at some point.

Will try this approach tomorrow. And, you are so right. Waiting for eBay to fix this is a total waste of time. They don't even call UPS directly, but file a flimsy "charge dispute" via email. I have indisputable proof that this UPS charge is beyond wrong.

@urbandigs I certainly hope you follow through and fight this. That's not a small amount to let go. Unfortunately there are far too many daily transactions on this platform and everything has been made to be handled by bots. Same goes for UPS. Machines do make errors. Fight this and please come back to post an update when you can. Wishing you the best of luck....

Oh, and eBay shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the checking account from which you make your mortgage payments and any other critical payments.

EBay and UPS finally made things right. Sort of....UPS agreed to credit back the outrageous shipping overcharge, after I was able to convince them how ridiculous it was. EBay had also agreed to credit me even if UPS didn't cooperate. However, the problem lies with eBay's inability to deal directly with UPS to begin with. By sending powerless "charge disputes" via email, UPS just doesn't take these seriously. Ebay should have called them and communicated directly with UPS. And, it took almost 3 weeks to get this all straightened out. As a result, I am opening up my own account with UPS, so I can deal directly with them in the future. Also, I will be billed directly for my shipping charges by UPS, and pay via credit card. No more withdrawals from my checking account for an erroneous shipping charge. In the end, eBay and UPS did the right thing. BUT, if I hadn't fought extremely hard for my rights, I would have been ripped off horribly. I made over 25 phone calls to both eBay and UPS to get this worked out. I lost a lot of sleep and money over this, which I will never recuperate. Hard lesson learned.

Glad to hear it worked out. The only issue with having a separate UPS account is the loss of the Ebay discount. I have read that you can somehow link your Ebay account to get the discount but I have never tried it and not sure if that is true.

Our Letter sent to the email of eBay CEO...
Hello, we are sellers on eBay, averaging well over $1000 per day in sales primarily in auto parts in accessories, a small microbe in the grand eBay world to be sure, but if this is happening to us it is happening to others as well.
When eBay implemented their shipping label program in cooperation with USPS, UPS, and FedEx it simplified the shipping process giving sellers choice of shippers based on price, preference, and other data, an excellent resource that eased many bottle necks in the shipping process. However, UPS seems to be making a mockery of this system, making it unreliable. We have had several back/over charges on eBay from UPS. It appears this is only a UPS problem, I was told by a representative that this is something all of the shipping companies do, and to some degree that is correct, as we have received a few notifications from USPS of both minor (a couple dollars) over charges as well as credits back to us. Unlike USPS that informs us of every such charge discrepancy, FedEx and UPS give no such notifications, so it is difficult to track discrepancies between label quoted charges and actual charges, and a few dollars here and there, though frustrating, as that’s what sets the shipping price of the items we list, it really doesn’t catch our attention. However, in shipping FedEx/UPS, because of the immediate and vast difference between ‘standard’, ‘oversize’, and over ‘over size’ dimensions, charge discrepancies starkly stand out. It is here where it becomes obvious that it is only UPS that is **bleep** us with these inconsistent charges. As such we started photographing packages that are within ‘standard’ dimensions but are near ‘oversize’, as well as those within the dimensions of ‘oversize’ as proof they are not over ‘oversize’, then we upload those measurements to the buyer through eBay messages or on the listing itself for proof of accuracy. Yet the over charges continue...only from UPS. As we learn of this our documentation increases, as who knew we needed such documentation, but our conversations with eBay representatives that tell us, “not to worry” “they will take care of it” “they have opened a dispute” and we will “receive notification within 3 to 5 business days” have not occurred as we were told. As per our last conversation SR1-392107334306, (good thing I wrote down that number, as at the time of sending this email I still have not received an email with that number as the representative said I would) but I was told by the representative that ‘now the disputes might be too old to get our money back’. Unfortunately, I did not document the conversations I had with the previous representatives that told me ‘not to worry’ ‘these charges would be taken care of’, and ‘they would reach out to me in 3 to 5 days’. It is absurd that we should have to make such documentation, as all of this creates more of a shipping bottle neck than the eBay shipping label program solved. So we thought it best to go straight to the top in letting eBay know that UPS is making a mockery of their relationship with eBay with these false back charges that are not being resolved even with disputes.
Sincerely,
XXXXXXXXX

I have had a CSR tell me they have never heard of anyone winning a dispute with either FedEx or UPS. The process is designed so you give up.

And the why I do not use ebays shipping.... You are not the only one who has been ripped of by such claims made by shippers....
But I would have to go with this being one of the larger ones in value.
Glad you got it straighten out...

You want to only use your own UPS account and keep ebay out of the middle. Open a free one, then go to PayPal and link it to your PayPal account. This will apply the same discounts when you use the UPS website to ship from. Make sure you upload tracking to ebay when you ship.

I have been having the same issues. I have now gotten overcharged 3 times in the past month by UPS. I am expecting a few more from the packages I shipped out last week. They really don't care at all. If you call UPS directly they will argue with you until you are blue in the face.
Ebay has been telling me I will get my money back from 2 disputes but there is only a record of one email where they said I would get my money back a week ago. Last 2 times I called them, there has been no record at all, no follow up email. Just an assurance that I will get my money back. LOL
I am totally done with UPS. Will never ship with them ever again. Do anything to avoid them. Even when I went into the store they tried to charge me $30 for an item I eventually shipped through them for $13. Just wish Ebay would help out more with dealing with an absolute joke of a company like UPS.

mfink10 If you used your own UPS account and not gone through ebay, you wouldn't be having these problems, or if one did arise you could deal directly with UPS. Otherwise, UPS will not help you as ebay is the shipper of record.
