Global Shipping Program from USA to Canada

Be very carefull when having items sent from the USA to Canada. If the seller uses the Global Shipping Program, Pitney Bowes will charge you $30 USD or much much much more to process the import charges. I have had $65 USD processing charges on items that are DUTY FREE ! On top of that the shipping time is almost double that of standard USPS.  I used to buy a great deal of tooling from the USA because it was slightly cheaper. With the new Global Shipping Program it is now MUCH cheaper to buy goods in Canada, or if you want to save money on the same item and are willing to wait, buy the item in China or the UK. If you are forced to buy from the USA,  make sure the seller will ship it to you USPS.

If I'm not mistaken, if there is no duty on items the import charge that is attached to a GSP shipment merely becomes a larger fee for Pitney Bowes.  That is why it really makes little sense to use the GSP program to ship items that don't have such taxes placed on them.  However, if a seller only ships internationally using the GSP scheme buyers have only the option of paying the high import charges or not buying from that seller.
