Hey all,
I haven't been around in awhile... but started selling again. A buyer wants to return a brand new jacket... and said there are "loose thread, wants to return" which... whatever. That's fine. I'm trying to accept the return, but it prompts me to pay for a shipping label! So, I am being forced to pay a $8 in return shipping?! I'm so confused. I've never had to do this. On all my listings I say that due to the nature of my items, I require the buyer to pay for return shipping.
Can I message the buyer that once I receive the item, I will deduct the shipping cost from the refund total? 😕 I don't know what to do.

You made the right decision. eBay has changed a lot of rule now that side with the buyer. We can no longer leave negative feedback for buyers. All that buyer would have had to do was file a claim through eBay and they would side with the buyer.
Here is eBay's money back guarantee link: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy...
In any case welcome back!

Ahh I see! Interesting. Thank you!
Like the PP mentioned, some people just know how to work the eBay system and if they can get a free shipping label, they will.
When (if) I get this jacket back, I'll be looking at every seam and stitch to find this "loose thread". As a matter of fact, how would I know that the buyer didn't rip the seam trying to force it over their head?! So, they're damaging my brand new items and returning it.... I'm sure it is a possibility.

Ya they do.
They know all they have to do is file an INAD, even a false one to get the return shipping paid by the seller.
If they send the item back and there is no damage as the buyer is claiming, you can report the buyer for abusing the MBG, after you refund them.

Ah that's great to know. Thanks, Ken!! I'm going to be checking it thoroughly.

If you call Ebay up they sometimes will recredit you for the return label especially if you tell them theres nothing wrong with the item. If you dont offer free shipping you might be able to avoid refunding that or at least get a credit back on it.
Anything I sell on Ebay I dont offer free shipping anymore.
