Fedex package pickup during a delivery

I handed a package to a Fedex driver after I received a package from him. He asked if " I had called it in"  said they are not allowed to pick up packages. I said I had called it it and was told to just give it to the driver.  As Fedex has thousands of reps that lie could never be disproven.  He then said he would have to phone it to make sure it was ok. After the call he said yes he could take it.

UPS always took packages. Anyone else have that happen?

Can't say that I have but it sounds like the driver was smart enough to cover his own ___.

I've had this discussion with both UPS and FedEx drivers. They both said there are usually different drivers assigned for pickup and delivery. If the delivery driver takes the package when they weren't assigned the pickup, they need to call it in to confirm it's ok because someone at the local hub will need to cancel the other driver that was scheduled to pickup. This is even more common during the holidays.

Don't know about FedEx, but our PO won't pick up anything, not even letters if we leave them in the box.

We can schedule pickups for packages, but everything else, we have to take to the PO.

Ah, ok. In that case I think it depends on your area. I've lived in different locations and some were more open to taking packages than others.

Since the phone rep told you to hand it off to the delivery driver it could have been a new driver unsure of the process. I wouldn't think much of it unless it keeps happening.

I ship FedEx regularly.  Most times I schedule a pickup.  However today we had a chewy delivery but did not have a pickup scheduled.  Our driver asked if he could take anything from me.

We have been known to track the driver down in a parking lot to hand off a package.  Never had any driver decline.  As long as their scanner will accept the label they say they can take it.

We have problems with FedEx SmartPost at our Post Office. 

Often times the SmartPost pallet will contain packages for other offices or even regular FedEx packages (if we were to deliver those there would be no scan for the delivery as they do not have a usps barcode).

We can not just hand these back to the delivery driver, we have to call FedEx and have them send a "recovery truck", sometimes it takes a week or more for the items to be "recovered"

If Amazon or UPS (SurePost) makes the mistake we hand it back to Amazon the next morning. We call UPS and they will send the closest truck around to pick it up ASAP.

I did not speak to a phone rep, I only said that as it's what the driver wanted to hear. Hey it works in politics.

Fed-Ex ground contracts out a lot of their deliveries. It is possible.
