FEDEX SURCHARGES AUGUST 2024

Fed Ex surcharges:  Fuel Surcharge? Residential Surcharge? I calculated the dimensional weight using the formula given by eBay, Length x height x width divided by 166 then put tht weight in the weight box, the carrier flagged it as the actual weight was 7.30 pounds. That was the actual weight but the billable weight is charged based on the dimensions, in this case 16x12x11÷166=12.7 (13) pounds. 

The additional surcharges were not listed on eBay's shipping label page. Is this a scam?

All the shippers are doing that but Fedex is the worst.    I get the feeling they only want large company accounts anymore but are not ready to just come out and say that.

Your screenshot cuts off too much info. For example, that 13 lb at the bottom is the billable weight by carrier. Weight is not an issue here.

You also cut off the top section - were you charged a cost adjustment and how much? Please post the entire screen cap blocking out buyer name and order number.

Dimensional weight is a MYTH.... Why would their provided calculator not figure worst case??? There is only ONE reason if that were the case as any 6th grader could program it correctly......The bottom line is that Ebay allows FedEx and UPS to run a racket on their site. Of all the lawsuit threats on here over the years, I do find it surprising that no cockroach (AKA...Lawyer) has not taken this case up as it would be a slam dunk for them....

You are using the wrong dimensional weight divisor. FedEx and UPS use 139. USPS uses 166.

So, 16 x 12 x 11 = 2112 / 139 = 15.194 not 12.722

That shouldn't matter.  The dimensional weight is accounted for when the weight, dimensions are entered.  But UPS and Fedex do have other surcharges.

Wrong! FedEx weight divisor for Ebay is 166 with the exception of Fed Ex Ground Economy, which uses 139.

That's not correct @steady2304 - take a look at eBay's dimensional weight guide here:

Regardless, the point is moot. Dimensional weight is (a) factored in upfront by eBay's shipping calculator and (b) not the issue here. Original poster never provided the full screenshot I asked for or clarified if there was a cost adjustment.

My suspicion is the residential surcharge might be the issue, if there even is an issue, but cannot say unless we get more details.

No idea what you're getting at.

I posted that link above because a different poster provided the wrong divisors. That should have been clear because I addressed them directly and quoted what they said.

Your post(s) have the correct divisor information and I supported what you said when I provided that link.

Not sure why agreeing with you on the divisor is problematic or a "worst answer" in your view. 🤷

Residential surcharges are even applied to larger commercial business accounts.  I have a  FedEx  business account and home deliveries cost about 20-25% more.  The main advantage to using my own FedEx over eBay's is at times,  I don't have any oversize fees, all goes by weight.  But on lighter weighted items, ebay's rates are about equal or better.   If sellers don't think they aren't in the shipping business, they need to rethink their approach.  It is not about what the product cost, its about how efficient you can ship it.

And on a side note, most TL and LTL deliveries all have fuel surcharges applied as well.  Many tuck lines are even charging if you need to use their lift gate to off load.
