We have been shipping our products in 5 gallon plastic pails using the same box for nearly 30 years. We purchased a Fedex label from eBay. After the item shipped, eBay emails us saying that Fedex reported that the dimensions were an inch or two larger than we submitted, which raised the shipping cost for each package over $100 more! We provided receipts of the boxes and images. We submitted a dispute to eBay back in mid-August and FedEx still has not settled our dispute. There needs to be a major lawsuit against these scamming carriers

Was the 5 gallon pail actually packed INSIDE a box, or did you just ship whatever it was as the 5 gallon bucket by itself.
FedEx and UPS have severe up-charges for items which are not in cardboard boxes. A 5 gallon bucket OUT of a box will incur substantial up-charges. Not really a surprise if you did not box it.
The fact that you have been doing it for years overlooks the fact that FedEx and UPS have just started to tighten up their extra charges. What the used to let slide they won't any more.
Additionally, according to a post a few days ago from wastingtime they are getting fussy on rounding off. Where 11 1/4" was rounded down to 11" now it is rounded up to 12". And what the size of the box? Did it go over 1 cubic foot? See the post from devon pinned to the top of this column.
Details please.

Was the 5 gallon pail actually packed INSIDE a box? Did you not read my post? There is nothing to discuss here. I have been shipping the same products IN BOXES for close to thirty years, so please do not insult me by asking me these novice questions. Federal Express lacks integrity....PERIOD! They are trying to pull a scam, as they have done with me in the past through eBay. I guarantee, many others are experiencing the same issue with this outfit, and some will go along with whatever FedEx tells them. Since we have had a UPS account for many years, we will just stick with them from now on instead of using FedEx for a lower rate off of eBay....no matter how low their rate comes in....it's not worth it.

Since you are not a novice, why not use your PirateShip account for UPS labels at or below the eBay discounted rate?

UPS and Fedex are now rounding UP fractions of an inch - every time you print a label, a warning comes up that tells you this at the top of the screen.
If the exterior dimension of the box is 14.25" you have to mark it as 15" when you print your label, not 14".

I agree. This was what I was also about to post.

Fedex is the worst for that. Did the packing push the sides our or cause the flaps to round over a bit?

correct. This is a change from past practices. The dimensions on the box are inside, so listing a box as 10 x 8 x 6 if that is the size, will now be charged for 11 x 9 x 7

Starting August 18, 2025, FedEx and UPS will round up all package dimensions!!
This was shipped BEFORE the new rule! So, under the 1/2" would be rounded off to the lower dimension, and over the 1/2" to the next higher dimension. The below instructions were taken from UPS before 8/18/25

Well, since I don't conduct all my business on eBay, and they never brought this to my attention, how was I supposed to know about it?
