Extra postage due upon delivery

Good morning everyone! I purchased a nitro rc buggy for my son for $210 + $25 shipping and when USPS showed up I had a bill for $44.46 extra postage due!!! Because the seller put that the package weighed 1 ounce when it is 15lbs+. I contacted the seller and he is refusing to refund the extra postage. I contacted eBay and they suggested sending the seller a a return request and say pay extra postage of accept a full refund return. I sent eBay another message asking about the $44.46 extra postage and they responded that it is up to the seller to refund eBay isn't responsible for extra postage so how is this buyer protection if I get charged $45 and can't get it back for something that was the buyers fault/ scam to get lower shipping cost. Any suggestions??? Thank you.

@bbravo65

No worries.  You're right, and I know that (if I were to check myself) ... I was just typing fast without a focus on precision with terminology.

@orangehound...I have to say "sorry" to you first...didn't mean to correct you...but POSTAGE DUE is not COD...

...Postage Due due to shortage of purchasing postage...

...COD when a selling companies or private individual sellers sold their merchandises and shipped their packages to buyers in a binding contract that USPS on behalf of the sellers to collect the cost of purchase and shipping in one invoice from buyers...

You're right, of course, but it is eBay terminology:

Exceptions:

  • The buyer can provide, via written proof from the carrier, that they refused the package because it arrived empty or was damaged in shipping
  • The buyer accepted and opened the package only to determine that it was an empty box
  • The item arrived COD because it didn't have enough postage on it

And unless we speak in terms which eBay can understand, any case we file is likely to go sideways.

Re: Extra postage due upon delivery

Yeah I have pictures and a receipt from USPS for it. I sent both pics to the seller and he is refusing to do anything about it. I sure learned a lesson that if this ever happens again to just refuse it. I had a lot of communication with seller before purchasing never thought he wouldnt make it right. But I guess you cant trust people all the time.

Re: Extra postage due upon delivery

...report the seller to eBay...what's a thief...!

...send him a message that you will report him to Postal Inspection (hotline # 1-877-876-2455)...and not a threat but please do it...create a case with US. Postal Inspection Service...and give him that case number...

...did anyone suggest that you can file a NAD case against the seller and let see how he/she reacts to it...?

@haha-607197...eBay needs to change that versus...whoever wrote that terminology has to do fully research, and well-inform his/her information before sending out a statement or else, that person will be held accountable for a misleading in business...

Re: Extra postage due upon delivery

I told the seller a few days ago that I was going to report him to eBay which I did and his response was "go for it" I really think eBay needs to look at this seller more he has other items listed that looks like he might do the same thing he did to me. He has a rc truck listed that weighs around 25lbs and he is only charging $3.95 shipping that thing will be close to $80 to ship.

Re: Extra postage due upon delivery

...one mail carrier here always send back Postage Dues to senders...when was asked why she did it, her simple answer is people has to be responsible for their actions, don't force another side to take loss cause it was not their mistakes...personally, I strongly agreed with her...

Re: Extra postage due upon delivery

I certainly agree with that and will do that from now on! Supposedly the seller is now going to refund the $45 I will believe it when I see it but his attitude has changed today. He contacted eBay and PayPal to find out how to refund my money. Fingers crossed.

Re: Extra postage due upon delivery

...probably either nobody has ever reported him or may be...eBay did not act strong enough to punish him for keep repeating unprofessional business practicing...eBay most of the times sides with buyers...but in this particular situation they evidently are not...
