Entered the wrong tracking information for a return (complicated situation)

A few days ago I bought something by mistake. I requested a return to the seller and it was approved. I printed, paid for, and used the shipping label ebay provided for me via paypal, and then I shipped the item back to the seller today. The item is still in transit. When I went into the Ebay App, I tapped "Mark as Shipped" and then it asked me for the tracking information. So, I entered the "label #" that was on the receipt I got from USPS. However, that label # is apparently not actually a tracking number, because I tried to track the order using that label # and nothing came up. I even tried typing it in on google and no tracking information came up related to it. Weird, right? So then I looked at the shipping label that ebay gave me, I still had the file open on my computer when I printed it. Turns out the CORRECT tracking number was literally on the label. I used the label # by mistake. So, to rectify my mistake, I attempted to change the tracking number associated with the return, to the correct one, but then the ebay website gave me the message "this tracking number already exists in our system". That makes no sense, because how can it exist in their system, if I entered the wrong tracking number in the first place? So now I can't change it, because it "already exists". Will this cause me any issues? Will the seller not be able to track the order? (potentially leading to issues where they might never get it, ebay won't have a paper trail, and then I get screwed out of a refund) Or is everything fine? Ebay's backend system is clearly flawed because it should have accepted the correct tracking number when I tried to enter it. This item cost $120 so I don't want to take any chances with not getting my refund from the seller.

It might already be in the system correctly based on what I found here:

Try entering the tracking number on the USPS website (www.usps.com) and see if you get tracking information from there. Don't enter it in google.

When you get a label through eBay, the tracking number automatically uploads for you. That’s why you are getting that error message.

Right, but if I only had a brain, eBay is watching the fake tracking number --

which will never show delivered, and refusing the purchased tracking number --

because it was previously in the system already. I have an idea; try this:

Prefix the correct tracking number with:

420 and the destination zip code

@dabanman

For example, if the tracking number is 9876... and the zip is 12345 --

type in 420123459876... at USPS.com to first check that it works --

then enter that into eBay to update your return tracking number.
